Job Summary
Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Math Specialist for grades K-5 for the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative ( AMSTI -AU) program. AMSTI -AU is a project designed to provide K-12 teachers in the East Alabama In-Service Region with professional development and materials so that they can teach mathematics and science through evidence-based methods.
Essential Functions
Duties and responsibilities include:
Working with mathematics and/or science teachers in Grades K-5 implementing the AMSTI program.
Assisting in providing a two-week Summer Institute that includes instructional and resource components as identified by AMSTI .
Providing frequent, ongoing, on-site assistance to AMSTI Schools.
Assisting AMSTI schools in effectively using learning teams, assisting in developing a cadre of certified trainers to support training programs.
Offering professional development to AMSTI Schools.
Providing training and guidance to AMSTI School teacher leaders.
Assisting in the effective operation of the materials distribution and refurbishment center.
Assisting the School of Education and the College of Sciences and Mathematics with pre-service and continuing education programs related to AMSTI .
Assisting with website pages related to the activities of AMSTI .
Assisting in recruiting new AMSTI Schools.
Maintaining records and completing paperwork in a timely manner.
Participating in professional development activities and staff meetings as required by the State Department of Education.
Performing other duties assigned by the AMSTI site director or state coordinator.
This position is an eleven-month contract paid over a twelve-month period.
Education Level
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study
Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, Mathematics, or a related field.

Area of Experience
Teaching experience in grades K-5 in Mathematics.
Requirements for Additional Job Levels
Level II-two years of relevant experience in grades K-5 in Mathematics.
Level III -fours years of relevant experience in grades K-5 in Mathematics.
