BASIC FUNCTION:

Fairfield University is seeking an energetic, innovative and goal-oriented Assistant Director of Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy to join its Annual Giving team of eight. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing and reaching revenue and donor goals for the young alumni, student philanthropy, and student phonathon programs at the University.

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director will apply the newest social media and other trends to create exciting new fundraising initiatives to capture the interest of the Young Alumni base. In addition, this role will utilize the class ambassador and reunion year volunteer programs to reach fundraising goals for the young alumni base. For the student philanthropy program, including the senior class gift, this position will develop and implement engaging programs and manage class volunteers to reach goals. In addition, this position will oversee the Student Phonathon Program and the Student Phonathon Coordinator. The Assistant Director will also manage a portfolio of select class ambassadors by cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts.

This position will also work with the Alumni Relations office on joint programming efforts with the objective of engaging Young Alumni and encouraging giving.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required.

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years working in a development office, preferably in higher education, with applicable experience. Experience working in student phonathon, student fundraising and/or student government preferred. Some supervisory experience required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:

REPORTS TO: Director of Annual Giving

Job Responsibilities :

Work with Director to develop and implement an annual communication, solicitation, stewardship and activity plan for Young Alumni to ensure revenue and donor goals are achieved.

-Develop and implement new and existing philanthropy programs, including the President’s Circle ‘Gold Circle’, and Young Alumni Donor Loyalty Programs.

-Capitalize on the senior class gift program to improve YA donor loyalty.

-Utilize a mix of traditional methods, social media and other innovative new tools, such as online crowdfunding, to engage and solicit YA.

- Manage a portfolio of young alumni volunteers through regular communications and face-to-face/virtual visits to engage, solicit and close gifts.

-Develop activities, in tandem with the Office of Alumni Relations, that serve to keep young alumni engaged with Fairfield, thus making them more likely to support the University financially.

Recruit and manage ambassadors for the Young Alumni classes, 1-10 years out, to create a strong cadre of volunteers who will help with Fairfield’s outreach, engagement, marketing and solicitation efforts.

-Recruit and manage 10+ ambassadors for each class, including 1 – 2 chairs, who will assist in managing, engaging and soliciting their class’s ambassadors.

-Following the program structure developed by the Associate Director, Reunion and Class Ambassadors, provide guidelines and training for ambassadors to perform outreach, develop engagement opportunities and conduct peer to peer fundraising. Primary fundraising schedule includes Stagiving Day (Fairfield’s annual day of giving) and calendar year end.

-Solicit and close gifts from chairs and other ambassadors.

Manage the 5th and 10th reunion class gift committees to reach revenue and participation goals:

-Identify, recruit and engage 8-15 committee members per class.

-Following the program structures developed by the Associate Director, Reunion and Class Ambassadors, provide guidelines and training for ambassadors to perform outreach, develop engagement opportunities and conduct peer to peer fundraising.

-Promote reunion gift participation and achieve class goals through regular committee calls and communications, social media and face-to-face or virtual visits.

As part of the Annual Giving team, perform responsibilities relating to the implementation of STAGiving Day (Fairfield’s annual day of giving.)

For the Senior Class Gift and student philanthropy programs, develop and implement engaging programs and manage class volunteers to reach goals.

-For Senior Class Gift, recruit and manage 15+ committee members, including 1 – 2 chairs, who will assist in managing and engaging their classmates. Develop fun and engaging programs to encourage seniors to make their senior class gift.

- Organize student philanthropy education and fundraising programs, working closely with the Office of Alumni Relations and student organizations.

Following guidance of the Director, oversee the Student Phonathon Program and manage the Student Phonathon Coordinator

-Oversee hiring and training of student callers by Coordinator

- Ensure Coordinator is implementing segmented calling, database is being appropriately updated, and goals are being met.

Monitor progress towards goals for programs and adjust tactics as needed to ensure goals are met. Report on results.

Participates in the professional development of the department. This involves:

  • promoting efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community

  • participating in departmental/staff meetings as necessary

  • serving as a responsible committee representative as requested

  • communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent matters



Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:

  • promoting the proper utilization of equipment, tools, and materials

  • notifying supervisor immediately regarding any unsafe working conditions
