Director of Clinical Education

Job Description:
This is a university faculty position with academic rank based upon the appointee's academic and experiential qualifications. The incumbent who serves in this position is responsible for the overall development of supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) necessary to ensure students receive the clinical experiences required to meet program outcomes and accreditation standards. As a program faculty member, this individual is also involved in generating and delivering classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction within the basic medical and clinical science topics for which he/she is qualified.


Job Duties:
In conjunction with the Program Director, oversees coordination of all aspects of the clinical education component of the program including development, securement, and maintenance of clinical rotation sites. Will require some short-distance travel.

Orients preceptors and staff members at clinical sites regarding objectives and expectations for SCPEs.

Ensures clinical sites provide orientation and any special training needed such as rules of institution, accessing medical records, etc.

With the assistance of the Clinical Coordinator, maintains the student clinical rotation schedule for supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs).

Oversees administration of classroom activity, assessment, and evaluation of instruction for clinical year students.

Provides regular feedback to the program concerning student progress and problems during the clinical year.

Develops, reviews, and revises as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.

Participates in scoring qualifying applications, interviewing candidates, and rendering selection decisions.

Helps design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate curriculum.

Instructs, mentors, provides feedback, and assesses students within areas of expertise and interest; assures the availability of remedial instruction.

Represents the Department of Physician Assistant Medicine through service on College and University-level committees as time allows.

Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


Required Qualifications:

Graduate level degree. (If the applicant is a PA, must have current UT licensure and up-to-date NCCPA certification).


Preferred Qualifications:
Seeking applicants with the following:

Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with clinical preceptors, clinical site staff, organizational administrators, students, staff, and faculty.

Self-motivated with refined organizational skills.

Proficient with the use of computers for organization, word processing, communication, and data analysis.

Enthusiastic about working in a collaborative environment.

Preferred qualifications include:

Two-to-five years working in higher education.

Experience in recruiting and sustaining clinical sites for medical education.

Evidence of marketing, analytic and outcome skills.

At least two years of clinical experience in a healthcare-related field.
