JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Residential Life and Housing for Marketing and Engagement is a live-on-campus position with leadership and management of two residence halls, including student paraprofessional staff.

This position has strategic responsibility for creating and leading strategies that facilitate multi-faceted marketing that promote and elevate residential living and learning experience, image and impact the residential experience has on student learning, growth, and development.

This position will help develop website content, facilitate social media, write and gather stories and photos of residential students' engagement to help tell stories, build affinity, and increase the profile of programs and services among internal and external audiences.

The Assistant Director will uphold the Office of Residential Life and Housing's mission to support our student's development in a safe and inclusive community and commit to on-campus leadership and citizenship through purposeful social, educational and experiential engagement.

REPORTS TO: Director of Residential Life and Housing

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Live in one residence hall on campus and provide emergency responses and routine referrals for that building and others on campus as necessary.
  2. Provide guidance and supervision to resident student and paraprofessional (Resident Assistant, Hall Attendant) staff in two residence halls.
  3. Oversee maintenance and repair of structure and furnishings in two residence halls.
  4. Identify the interests and needs of communities and individual students in assigned residence halls and provide support and programming to advance in those areas.
  5. Participate in departmental emergency on-call rotation.
  6. Serve as conduct officer in minor disciplinary incidents. This may include conducting administrative hearings, mediating conflicts, enforcing sanctions, and any necessary supplementary follow-up.
  7. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  8. Engage in problem-solving with students, staff, faculty, parents, and community members.
  9. Create, plan, and implement new launches, brand activities, social media, digital activity, and marketing and communications campaigns for Residential Life.
  10. Lead the development of marketing material, including advertising format and placement, promotional items, marketing collateral, including presentation information packs that promote the Office of Residential Life and Housing.
  11. Ensure consistency and appropriateness of residential life branding and messaging.
  12. Collaborate with campus partners to strengthen Residential Life marketing and engagement strategies.
  13. Support the Center for Student and Community Engagement in the marketing, application, and selection process for Living-Learning Communities.
  14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Experience in college residence hall management with live-in responsibilities.
  2. Knowledge and experience applying student development theory to marketing and social media strategies.
  3. Knowledge and experience with marketing and student engagement at the college level.
  4. Knowledge and experience with student development programming.
  5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to serve as a role model and mentor for students and staff.
  7. Good interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must live in the assigned residence hall in the apartment provided.
  2. May require frequent walking.
  3. May require frequent climbing of stairs.
  4. May require moderate or heavy lifting.
  5. May require frequent moving of equipment/furniture.
  6. Requires frequent typing for extended periods of time.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Master's degree preferred.
  3. Two to three years of experience as a Residence Hall Director and/or Database Administrator required.

POSITION(S) SUPERVISED:
  1. Resident Assistants (10).
  2. Hall Attendants (20+).
