POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Weatherhead School of Management’s Director Enrollment and Career Development is a part of a specialized counseling team focused on the development and execution of strategic initiatives to further the mission of the school including assisting students and alumni in finding career opportunities to achieve their professional goals and streamlining the process of admission.  The position reports to the Executive Director of Enrollment, Career Development and Student Experience position and is directly responsible for developing and managing all career strategy, career advising, and career search skill development, including workshop development, coordination, scheduling and managing an MBA core course:  Individual Professional Development Program. The director will also provide input in developing the department budget. The director oversees the matriculation process from initial application to admission, orientation, and career development. The director will offer unique insights into the multidisciplinary world of management and be capable of developing mutually beneficial relationships with students, faculty, alumni and employers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide guidance, training, coaching and direction on matters pertaining to career development and enrollment.  Work with the executive director to create a strategy to improve graduate student satisfaction from admission through career services (new initiative for the school).  Collaborate with the program directors for specialty programs to ensure seamless orientation, fall events and career advising.  Manage student outreach effort to ensure that each MBA student is paired with a career development office staff member and that ongoing communication is established and maintained for student tracking and reporting purposes.  Help students and alumni develop an “inside track” regarding opportunities in a variety of management-related careers. Conduct mock interviews and participate in organizing and securing new employers for on campus interviews and other opportunities. Lead and manage off-site National Career Fair treks to provide students opportunities to engage with national employers and increase school visibility among employers and peer schools. (30% )

Implement both admission and placement strategies. Perform evaluation on an annual basis to measure the success of the strategies and to identify areas for improvement. Ensure that critical information is uniformly gathered, documented and kept confidential as required including admission, student career interest, job search status and contact information. (20%)

Oversee student success from application to graduation, improving the process of application to orientation, ensuring accuracy for each application and timely communication through acceptance.  Ensuring and reviewing offer letters, managing the scholarship process, implementing changes as needed and creating events to help entice students to accept and matriculate into various graduate programs at the school. (20%)

Identify opportunities to increase student engagement and participation in admission process and career development activities and ensure that all school resources are used to advance future classes and career opportunities for students. Participate in the development of school strategies regarding market trends and opportunities. Provide support and guidance in the development of diversity programming and other professional development initiatives. (10%) 

Partner with the director of employer development to establish a strategic list of potential corporate partners and proactively develop relationships on behalf of the school. Increase industry knowledge in order to maintain and improve the positive and productive relationships with hiring executives, recruiters and Weatherhead students and alumni. Work with clients to provide students who meet their organizational needs – including internships, project work, and case studies. (10%)

Represent both admission and career services in admission committee meetings to provide insight and guidance in the student recruitment and enrollment process. Organize and facilitate the alumni advisory career council meetings and ensure that measurable objectives are being met each year. (8%)

CONTACTS

Department:  Regular and frequent contact with all department staff, Dean’s office, faculty and staff.

University: Regular contact with faculty and staff, especially the other Case Western Reserve University career services offices and external relations.

External: Regular contact with employers, alumni, other university career services offices and vendors/suppliers.

Students: Daily contact with students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervisory responsibility for the Associate Director of Career Services, Operations/Enrollment Manager, Enrollment Manager, Career Management Coordinator, and Application and Enrollment Coordinator. This role will also supervise graduate assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 5 to 7 years professional experience, preferably in human resources, training and development or career development, in a corporation, university, public agency or consulting/staffing firm.  Experience in recruitment and selection for professional level roles in finance, marketing, healthcare, law, consulting or other professional fields.

Education/Licensing: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.  Additional education credentials (JD, PhD, Coaching or HR certifications) preferred.

Ability to communicate and market the services and programs of the Career Management office to potential students, current students, alumni, employers, faculty and other staff.

PC literate with ability to use Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint and Symplicity/Career Link required.

Ability to meet consistent attendance. 

Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face-to-face.
