Woodbury University invites applications for a Systems Librarian. The Systems Librarian holds a fulltime faculty position reporting to the University Librarian. This individual plays an active leadership role in the planning, development, management and support of the library’s technological infrastructure, electronic resources, and the library’s web presence. Within a team environment, shared responsibilities also include reference, collection development, and instruction in credit-bearing Information Literacy courses.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the responsibilities delineated below in such as way as to be able to meet Woodbury University’s criteria for faculty contract renewal and promotion. Engage in scholarly and professional activities related to responsibilities and personal professional interests.  Participate in library, faculty, and university governance.
  • Administer and maintain the OCLC WorldShare integrated library system (WMS). Generate reports for all library departments. Monitor and communicate new features and updates.  Troubleshoot and report issues to OCLC customer service and support..
  • Lead the development and management of content for the library’s web presence. Oversee the design and maintenance of the library’s website to ensure accessibility and overall usability.
  • Manage the library’s electronic resources; assist in their evaluation, selection and promotion. Ensure discoverability of content in WorldCat Discovery and on library website. Troubleshoot access and contractual problems; support and maintain administrative data for digital resources including collecting and analyzing usage statistics and other management reports; analyze license agreements and track subscriptions.  Maintain the library’s proxy server and EZproxy management software.  Liaison to software and database vendors and licensing consortium (SCELC).
  • Serve as technology advisor to the University Librarian. Keep abreast of current and emerging communications technologies, library systems, databases and digital services.  Recommend appropriate software purchases and service subscriptions.  Participate in development of library budget.
  • Teach credit-bearing courses in information literacy. Develop and present library instructional programs for classes in liaison departments, and others as assigned.  Provide workshops and database instruction for library patrons.
  • Provide reference and research assistance. Provide subject expertise and promote awareness of the breadth and depth of library resources.  Some evenings and weekends may be required to ensure adequate coverage of the reference desk.
  • Participate in collection development for one or more academic departments, and act as a liaison to those departmental faculty, students, and staff.
  • Collaborate with technical, academic, and administrative departments to produce dynamic and responsive information delivery. Take proactive steps to ensure strong working relationships with other administrative and academic departments.
  • Provide training and technical support to library staff for new and existing software and services.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.  At least three years of library experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of MARC record format and cataloging practices.
  • Knowledge of web design, usability principles and accessibility standards; familiarity with content management systems such as LibGuides CMS, demonstrated web development ability.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Proficient in Microsoft Office software.  Preferred:  familiarity with PHP, XML/XSLT, SQL and API web services.
  • Familiarity with the functions and administration of integrated library systems or library service platforms.
  • Familiarity with OCLC systems and services, including WMS and EZproxy.
  • Experience managing a knowledge base and link resolver for electronic resource content discovery; Collection Manager (WMS) preferred.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts such as security certificates, domain name systems, port numbers.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; ability to inquire and quickly acquire new skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent cooperative working relationships with individuals and departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Close vision, hearing/listening, and clear speech. 
  • Manual hand/fingers dexterity.
  • Combination of sedentary work, kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, squatting, standing, etc.
  • Works with/around and has verbal and face-to-face contact with others.
