Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

Marist College invites applications for the new position of Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator. Under the general supervision of the Title IX Coordinator, the Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator will work to support the College’s programs and compliance in Title IX, Title VII, Clery Act, VAWA, ADA, ADEA, NYS Education Law Sec. 129 (a) and (b), FERPA, HIPAA, and other state and federal laws pertaining to gender-based violence and discrimination in a higher education setting.

 

The Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for providing intake on complaints and cases, conducting investigations, preparing reports, and fostering an environment that encourages equity and respect for all members of the College community. The Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator will also assist in developing, delivering, and managing prevention-based education, awareness campaigns and outreach, training and community engagement.

 

The Title IX Investigator and Outreach Coordinator will partner with College stakeholders to ensure a safe and equitable College community for students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. This position interacts regularly with Safety & Security, Student Affairs and Student Conduct and may serve on a variety of committees focused on the College community’s safety, equity and wellbeing.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time professional experience, or 3 years of part-time professional experience in Title IX compliance, law, human resources, student life, student conduct, or related field is required.
  • Title IX Investigator certification as administered by the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) is required (or must be obtained after the start of employment).
  • Excellent organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail is essential with the ability to perform detailed work with accuracy under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with demonstrated ability to deliver training and education for varying constituents having a range of diverse backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting trauma-sensitive investigations in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation as they relate to Title IX, Title VII, the Clery Act, VAWA, Campus SaVE Act, ADA/Section 504, ADEA, and NYS Education Law Article 129 is strongly preferred.

 

Essential Functions:

Investigations

  1. Serves as the primary Title IX and Civil Rights Investigator for allegations involving gender-based discrimination, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-based violence, stalking and intimate partner violence involving students, faculty, staff, and other persons as defined by the College’s policies.
  2. Conducts prompt, equitable and thorough investigations of allegations including but not limited to:
    1. Assessments identifying College policies relevant to a complaint
    2. Witness interviews and credibility assessments
    3. Investigation report writing
  • Exercises judgement and discretion in the resolution of complaints including informal outcomes, College investigations or law enforcement investigations.
  • Maintains current knowledge and information of relevant state and federal statutes and regulatory guidance as well as best practices. Implements and regularly reviews investigation procedures that meet all relevant legal requirements.
  • Actively supports a College community that fosters a climate of safety and equity.

    Community Outreach & Education

    1. Develops information and awareness campaigns to students, faculty and staff regarding College policies and programs related to gender-based discrimination and harassment.
    2. Creates, leads and facilitates training programs for students and student groups.
    3. Assists in the development, implementation and assessment of awareness initiatives regarding Title IX and equity via a robust communications program including:
      1. Title IX/equity webpage(s)
      2. Social media channels
      3. Communications, trainings and workshops, student/employee committees and external community organization partnerships.
  • Assists in the development and facilitation of training and education programs in consultation with other College offices and other key stakeholders on and off campus.
  • Recommends and implements new programs, awareness campaigns and trainings to ensure best practices and a safe and equitable College community.
