Job Summary
Work with manager to set priorities for and conduct routine building inspections with a focus on maintaining a high level of cleanliness. Conduct custodial training to ensure standards across divisions. Direct responsibility for supervision of academic and administrative custodial staff, which includes scheduling, evaluating, and training staff and student workers. Provide for leadership and a climate for growth for staff and for developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff and other campus departments.
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Essential Functions
Operations (10%):
Maintain, support, and encourage open communications and respectful relationships among the college community, students, staff, and guests of the college. Promote diversity through employee recruitment, development, and staff relations. Assist with interviewing job applicants and recommends new hires.
Inspections and Supervision (55%)
Regularly inspect work areas in academic, administrative and residential locations and follow up on service related issues. Prepare and conduct building appraisals and work with assistant managers to address performance concerns and establish standard performance goals. Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate custodial staff to perform jobs effectively and safely. Conduct meetings promoting strong team approach and thorough understanding of departmental standards and work rules for the custodial group. Encourage problem solving and creates appropriate independent customer service skills within work group. Plan, coordinate, advise and execute needs for planned project work.
Training (20%)
Participate in designing and implementing department training programs. Conduct custodial training to ensure high level of safety and cleanliness standard is understood across divisions. Attend educational opportunities to enhance professional skills.
Administration and Misc. (15%)
Review and approve custodial payroll. Oversee work order process, weekly staff reports, distribute and track overtime for custodial coverage, building checks and additional projects when assigned. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current union contract(s) and comply with all contract language. Participate in and contribute to department and management meetings. Performs related duties and projects as assigned. Backup other staff as necessary.
Other Functions

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Associate’s degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience and/or a combination of education and experience. Knowledge and experience in residential and institutional operations.
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication ability and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students, student organizations, faculty, and staff. Ability to organize and prioritize work, takes initiative, resolve problems, and manage teams. Must work well independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be proficient in PC systems and software. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and weekends.
Additional Information
Must maintain current OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen training certification. Must be mobile between assigned areas, climb stairs, and possess good vision.
