Job Summary

The Adjunct Assistant Professor, Graphic Design instructs courses at various levels of the curriculum for students seeking the AAS degree in Graphic Design. This position requires individuals who embrace the vision of the Graphic Design program, contemporary design practice and pedagogy, innovation, collegiality and collaboration. The positions require energetic, creative, self-motivated people who have demonstrated teaching, leadership, and communication skills.

We are looking for adjuncts for the following Summer 2021 (June 7-July 29) courses:
• "Design 2D" - Monday/Wednesday, Noon-5:15 p.m.
• "Design 2D" - Tuesday/Thursday, Noon-5:15 p.m.
• "Drawing Media Methods 2" - Tuesday/Thursday, Noon-5:15 p.m.

We are looking for an adjunct for the following Fall 2021 (August 23-December 13) course:
• "Drawing Media Methods 3" - Tuesday/Thursday, 6-8:45 p.m.

JCCC is looking for candidates who:
• have a commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
• have professional success as a designer/teacher leveraging a range of design drawing methods and techniques.
• teach program curriculum established by full-time faculty/mentors and collaborate to offer ideas for alterations.
• adopt and integrate new technologies into the classroom and into the coursework.
• embrace collaboration with faculty and students from other disciplines, as well as people from the community.
• have a commitment and concern for global perspectives the diversity efforts of the department, division, and college.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design/Illustration
Minimum 5 years' professional design experience
Mastery of visual perception principles and formal composition in graphic communication
Experience using analogue and digital design drawing in solving visual problems - creating effective experiences and/or communication
Ability to teach and demonstrate a range of drawing systems to conceptualize and solve visual problems, such as perspective, and story-boards
Ability to teach and demonstrate an understanding of foundational design principles
Commitment to advancing the design discipline through exploration and innovative use of traditional and emerging medias
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, governmental agencies, community and business representatives, professional associations, and the public
Ability to digitally deliver courses online through JCCC’s learning management system, Zoom sessions with potentially limited face-to-face sessions. Course delivery will have required meeting days/times, with the option for limited face-to-face needs, ie critiques, advising, demonstrations, delivery of work.

Preferred Qualifications

10 or more years of professional design experience
2 or more years of teaching experience in a design/illustration/art program comparable to the Graphic Design program at JCCC
Ability to utilize traditional and evolving technologies that support the creative process and the industry such as story-telling and motion graphics
Strong understanding and handling of typography, both online and in print
Ability to create and contribute to in-class and out-of-class educational experiences such as industry-related tours, field trips, and lectures
Ability to demonstrate organizational, administrative, and collaborative leadership skills
Ability to provide commitment to student assessment and student success
