Job Description

Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to FSTDs and associated systems:

  • Resolves discrepancies reported by training crews, the FAA, and support staff.
  • Diagnoses and isolates problems to component or sub-assembly level.
  • Replaces or repairs components to return FSTDs to regulatory compliance.
  • Performs calibration, adjusting, and tuning of FSTDs and related systems.
  • Assists with the development, installation, and maintenance of visual scenery database.
  • Provide support to Flight Simulation Engineer in special redesign and enhancement projects.


Performs testing and preventative maintenance on FSTDs:

  • Performs daily preflight inspections of FSTDs and visual systems.
  • Performs scheduled and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Performs quarterly objective and subjective testing.
  • Runs diagnostics on FSTDs and visual systems.
  • Services hydraulic and electric motion and control loading systems.
  • Performs scheduled calibration, tuning, and adjusting of FSTDs and related systems.


Performs administrative duties:

  • Maintains FSTD fleet server and Distributed Simulation Network.
  • Maintains FSTD Discrepancy Reporting and Certification database.
  • Maintains FSTD Visual Scenery database.
  • Documents activity in shift, pass down, and Discrepancy Report (DR) logs.
  • Maintains spare parts and tool inventory.
  • Assists in recruiting, tracking, scheduling, and evaluating part-time personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining the Simulator Quality Management System (SQMS).
  • Assist in the acquisition of tooling, test equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining the support documentation and training library.
  • Liaisons with center stakeholders.
  • Participates in shift turnover meetings.


Maintains and updates FSTD related hardware and software configurations:

  • Maintains FSTD aircraft systems and avionics hardware configurations.
  • Maintains FSTD and visual scenery software configurations.
  • Performs routine software updates to FSTDs and visual scenery databases.
  • Performs software installation and updates to resolve discrepancies.
  • Performs and supports engineering modifications and updates.


Maintains and shares technical expertise:

  • Provides new hire indoctrination and basic training.
  • Provides oversight, direction, and OJT to center staff.
  • Provides assistance and operator training to FSTD crews.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and vendor schools.


Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace systems Maintenance, Aircraft Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or Computer Science, recent flight experience and a minimum of three years working with Flight Simulation and Training Devices.

A minimum of two years of OEM TYPE SPECIFIC WORK EXPERIENCE in the technical support of FSTDs and an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Simulation Technology, Electronics Technology, or Information Technology from an accredited college or university, or related military training may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft operating systems, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.

Strong working knowledge of FSTD regulations, documentation, software, and utilities.

Strong working knowledge of Flight Simulation and Training Devices (FSTDs).

Strong working knowledge of Distributed Simulation Networks and related systems.

Strong working knowledge of aerodynamics, mechanical assemblies, and electrical circuits.

Strong working knowledge of visual scenery development and related software.

Strong working knowledge of visual systems configuration and calibration.

Strong working knowledge of the Open Flight format software standard.

Strong working knowledge of Air Traffic Management Systems including TIS-B and ADS-B.

Strong working knowledge of Aircraft Integrated Cockpit Systems (ICS).

Strong working knowledge of collimated displays and related hardware and software.

Working knowledge of network management, network security, and network test equipment.

Working knowledge of local and wide area communication technologies including Ethernet.

Working knowledge of routing protocol environments such as TCP/IP, Apple talk, and multicast.

Working knowledge of network TCP/IP addressing including DHCP, BOOTP, DNS, and WINS.

Working knowledge of structured wiring standards, codes, policies, and termination procedures in copper and fiber optic cabled environments.

Strong troubleshooting skills including: servers, routers, switches, hubs, wireless access points, host computers, I/O systems, hydraulic and electric motion, control loading, and IG systems.

Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong time management and interpersonal skills.

Above average flying skills and knowledge of aircraft systems, principles of flight, and navigation theory.
