Due to expanding enrollment and transfer persistence goals as well the growth of the College's domestic and international programs and partnerships, Emerson College is seeking an Associate Registrar for Transfer Management to serve as a leader, collaborator, and front-line point of contact for prospective, deferred, and International transfer students. The Associate Registrar for Transfer Management will lead efforts related to partnerships and manage the pre- and post- admission evaluation processes for the transfer student population. The Associate Registrar will help develop and assure compliance with the Emerson's Articulation and Transfer Policy by working directly with the faculty, chairs, deans, Admission, and Academic Advising on courses and programs related to articulation and transfer initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Transfer Credit: Will work primarily with prospective and deferred students and their families to communicate and articulate potential transfer courses that will aid in the commitment decision among applicants. This may include preparing pre- and post-acceptance evaluations, and post-deposit evaluations as well as determining the transferability of credit for prior learning at high school dual enrollment programs, CLEP, AP, IB, DANTES, and military transcripts.

This work requires collaborating with students, admission staff, department chairs, deans and faculty to facilitate the transfer process via evaluation of transcripts and course syllabi, providing academic recommendations regarding substitutions and course waivers, and adjudicating transfer credit petitions. Will also assess international coursework that may require a third-party evaluation or verification that the course was taught in English.

Participate in Transfer Admission information sessions, new student orientations, and open houses as needed.

Policy/Process Development: Provide leadership, assessment, and innovation regarding transfer policy and technology initiatives, including the implementation of Transferology, a College Source product used to help to recruit students by assisting advisors, students, and parents in making educated decisions when transferring credit, and understanding transfer articulation information.

Develop and lead a Transfer Committee/Working Group (which may include members from Transfer Admission, Academic Advising and the Office of Education Abroad & Domestic Programs) to address any ongoing questions/concerns related to transfer policies, processes, and procedures with the goal to improve the transfer student experience leading to persistence and degree completion among the transfer student population.

Will propose and implement any necessary changes by making sure processes are clear, transparent, and current with Transfer industry best practices. Will develop a transfer evaluation manual and maintain standard operating procedures documentation.

Supervision: Will supervise and support the Assistant Registrar for Transfer and direct the transfer processes related to post-matriculated students. This includes oversight of the Assistant Registrar for Transfer's work with the Academic Department Chairs, the ProArts and Boston Arts Academy Consortiums, Office of Education Abroad & Domestic Programs' articulation agreements, global and exchange partnerships.

Articulation Agreements: Work directly with Academic Department Chairs and Deans and Admission in the rapid development of new proposals for academic articulations and partnerships.

Assures the currency and transparency of the existing articulation agreements, as well as frequent and timely adjustments to the existing articulation agreements.

Authorize and advise on the transferability of general college requirements in the articulation agreements between Emerson and other institutions.

International Students: Work closely with the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA) to assist international students with their transfer and registration-related needs. Collaborate with the Academic Advisor(s) who works with International Students. Understand and articulate SEVIS and registration-related guidelines to International students when necessary.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Office of the Registrar on various committees and projects related to the admission and/or transfer experience.
  • Perform general registrar-related tasks and participate in the on-going registration and customer service functions of the Registrar's Office.
  • Work on other projects as directed by the Registrar.
  • Some evening and weekend work required. Travel - for conferences/Professional Development opportunities as available.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Work patiently and supportively with prospective students and their families.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with a commitment to customer service.
  • Keen organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Use independent judgment aligned with existing policies, best practices, and procedures to research and evaluate traditional and nontraditional course content to authorize course/credit transferability from an expanding number of regional, national, and international institutions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to independently manage and complete multiple projects.
  • Proven ability to manage, evaluate, and motivate direct reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data related to student admissions and recruitment.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 5-7 years of direct experience and broad knowledge in areas such as transfer policies/procedures; coordination, development, and/or maintenance of articulation agreements; academic advising; admission and outreach; credit evaluation; and/or comprehensive understanding of Registrar related functions or curriculum development.
  • Experience in reporting, data analysis, and data-driven decision-making processes and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, chairs, deans, senior academic administrators, and external constituents.
  • Prior supervisory experience.


You'll be preferred if you have:
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or Student Personnel Administration or another related field.
  • Experience with an ERP system (preferably Ellucian Banner), Salesforce, Transfer Evaluation System (TES), or Transferology, (or comparable transfer articulation tool)
  • Direct experience in and/or familiarity with community college transfer process
  • Direct experience in and/or familiarity with International credit systems, articulations and third-party evaluation agencies.
