Title: IT Technician

Location: Cookeville Center

Position Summary: This position is responsible for the operation of faculty and staff workstations and computer labs on the Volunteer State Community College campuses. This job requires software installation, hardware installation, implementation of security, program modification, and troubleshooting of both Apple and Windows operating systems. This job also requires knowledge of desktop and application virtualization. Travel to off campus locations is required.

Duties and Responsibilities: Install, relocate, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of networked and non-networked client hardware devices and software applications Build, maintain and deploy computer images. Responsible for maintaining accurate hardware and software inventories Research and evaluate software packages and operating systems. Modify applications to disable certain potentially dangerous features. Respond to emergency situations as needed. Administer computer labs Able to work with minimal supervision and make decisions within college policies and guidelines Able to occasionally work weekends or unusual hours. Able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users. Evaluate and recommend various hardware devices and software applications for compatibility with existing college hardware, software and network platforms. Administers the creation, use and updating of jobs in the Altiris and/or SCCM deployment applications. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Associate's degree in a computer-related discipline and 1 year of client support in an Active Directory environment OR High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of client support in an Active Directory environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Microsoft and/or Apple certifications. Experience with Citrix or other virtual desktop products. Experience with Altiris or SCCM Client Management suites. Experience with Macintosh OSX. Have a working knowledge of using scripts and batch files in connection with Altiris and/or SCCM

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Proficient with Microsoft applications. Basic knowledge of networking, Active Directory and server principles. Ability to diagnose computer related problems by utilizing industry best practices, troubleshooting techniques, analytical skills and vendor support. Candidates must enjoy working in a team environment supporting a varied constituency and possess a solid working knowledge of technologies used in a computing laboratory environment in higher education. Good problem solving, organization, and communication skills. Ability to learn new technology skills quickly.

Pay Rate: 32,600.00 - 39,120.00 annual salary depending on experience
