The position of University Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer reports to the provost and is a member of the University Cabinet.  The individual serves as the Senior IT Officer for the University System.

Responsible for the strategic direction and management of all aspects of technology relating to teaching, faculty research, students and administration

Responsible for staff of 300+ and overall budget of $73M Operating and $10M average annual capital 

Serves as the primary architect and convenor/ maintainer of the University’s IT Governance structure and relevant committees

Represent IT interests at relevant University committees including operational excellence and compliance efforts

Represent University’s external IT interests including relevant State and National Boards and Consortiums

Primary areas of operational responsibilities include:

  • Center for Integrated Research Computing – includes Computer Scientist led High-Performance Computing and Visualization services
  • IT Security – across the University’s entities, including its Medical Center and Affiliates
  • Academic IT systems- includes learning management and student information systems
  • Administrative IT systems – 100+ systems including Enterprise-wide Finance, Budget, HR, Advancement, Research and non-clinical supporting systemsTwo state of the art Data Centers that support Academic, Clinical, Administrative, and Research-oriented systems, Core Technologies including: 200 mile-high speed metropolitan Network
  • 30,000+ Telecommunication endpoints
  • Collaboration services
  • Print services supporting multi-purpose printing needs across the Enterprise
  • IT Project Management Office – Lean design project management office for sponsorship, oversight, gate review, and coordination of all major projects
  • University Enterprise Data Warehouse system and analytics/dashboard services

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in a technology related area, business, computer science or other related field of study

 

10 years of related experience in a complex academic, medical or higher education environment

 Significant experience in all aspects of information technology planning, development and implementation, including but not limited to enterprise resource planning, systems architecture, telecommunications, database administration, Web and social media development and security and compliance issues

Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with an attention to details

Strong leadership skills; demonstrated knowledge of the ways and methods by which technology supports the teaching learning environment; expert knowledge of industry trends;

Effective oral and written communication and presentation capabilities; a commitment to the University vision and values.
