Goal Statement: Effectively teach and assess student learning outcomes in chemistry courses. This could include courses in General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry appropriate to the first two years of a college curriculum.  In collaboration with colleagues, be responsible for ongoing curriculum evaluation and improvement within the context of chemistry courses, the College’s general education learning outcomes, and articulation requirements.  Facilitate student learning outside of the classroom through participation in student activities, college, and community events. Willingness to serve a program coordinator with appropriate release time.

KEY MEASURABLE EXPECTATIONS:

• Learner-centered Instruction: Use appropriate and effective student-centered teaching practices supported by research to maximize student learning and success. Apply differentiated instruction to help students at all levels with a holistic approach to supporting the whole person.  Regularly assess student learning to continuously improve instruction.  Teach evening and/or off-campus courses, if necessary.  Provide office hours conducive to student schedules.

• Curriculum Development: Develop and/or revise course(s) in collaboration with academic and industry colleagues. Propose and develop course offerings that meet the articulation requirements in the Illinois Articulation Initiative.

• Technology: Integrate instructional technology including technology appropriate to chemistry in the teaching of chemistry, including appropriate use of laboratory equipment. Willingness to develop and teach online courses if appropriate; ability to web-enhance courses in Blackboard.

• Involvement: Support College-wide initiatives and serve on committees. Collaborate with the Director of Grants and other relevant College staff in the seeking of grants in chemistry and manage grants in this area that are awarded. Mentor and support adjunct faculty in chemistry.

• Professional Development: Initiate and maintain active participation in professional development opportunities that encompass the disciplines of chemistry and teaching effectiveness.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s Degree or PhD in Chemistry from an accredited college or university required.

• Teaching experience at the community college level in chemistry preferred.

• Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college required.
