Full-Time MPH Faculty Position - Epidemiology

Assistant or Associate Professor

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is seeking a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor rank) for a full-time (12-month) position in our CEPH-accredited MPH Program.  Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or other relevant terminal degree in a directly related field.  Knowledge of SAS is required, and other statistical packages (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA) is desirable.  Candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and research are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities for this faculty position include teaching graduate courses, advising and mentoring graduate students, serving on Program and University committees, participating in Program assessment activities, and ensuring that the Program continues to meet all external accreditation requirements.  Candidates must demonstrate research potential and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

The MPH Program enrolls an average of 50 new students per year, with specialty tracks in Epidemiology and Health Management and Policy. Graduate Certificates are also offered.  Students typically complete the MPH degree in two years by taking courses for five consecutive terms.  Residential classes are held during evening hours, and some courses are delivered in an online or hybrid format.

The region offers many opportunities for research collaboration with investigators in both healthcare and community-based settings.  Notable campus centers include the Strelitz Diabetes Institute, the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, and the M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health.  The Master of Public Health Program enjoys close relationships with the School of Medicine, health care providers, and public health communities.  EVMS shares the Eastern Virginia Medical Center campus with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (one of 11 acute care hospitals in a top integrated healthcare system) and Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (part of a multi-specialty health system offering comprehensive pediatric care).

The position offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience and level of appointment.  Applications will be reviewed as received, and the position will remain open until filled.  The desired start date is July 1, 2021.

Quality of Life:  Located in the city of Norfolk, EVMS serves the southeastern region of Virginia known as Hampton Roads, as well as northeastern North Carolina.  The area provides easy access to Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, mountains, Washington D.C., and the state capital of Richmond.  Norfolk/Virginia Beach was Places Rated Almanac’s #1 metropolitan area for recreation.  Live and work in an environment abundant with history, culture, and education.
