Role Summary

The Department of Biology seeks to appoint an Assistant/Associate Professor in Molecular Biochemistry with experience in Molecular Biochemistry or related discipline.

The Professorship will be held in the College of Science. Candidates will be an established authority in their field, with a developed external profile.  They will become a leading member of the department and the College contributing to a dynamic, cutting edge research culture, with access to the excellent teaching and research facilities which UAEU offers. They will have a vital role to play in the development and achievement of COS within the context of the strategic goals of UAEU, leading research and scholarship in the field.

The Professor will be expected to lead advanced, internationally excellent research in Molecular Biochemistry, securing external funding to deliver high impact research, to deliver teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate levels, together with admissions, examining and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both the Department and the College.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will make a full contribution to the academic life of the University through research, teaching and academic service. They are expected to have extensive teaching experience, proven research experience with a significant publication record and to have demonstrated academic leadership and an ability to lead and manage effectively. The broad balance of duties for Professors (at all levels) includes Teaching, Supervision and Examining (40%), Research (40%) and academic and community service (20%).  All faculty are expected to contribute to the overall development of the College and Departmental profile as a world-leading provider of (discipline) education, training and research at the highest academic standard and through building partnerships and collaborations.

The College and Department

The Department of Biology is housed in a state-of-the -art facility with modern research and teaching equipment on Maqam campus offering undergraduate to doctoral programs.  The undergraduate program is accredited from the Royal Society of Biology, UK. There are 23 full-time faculty members in the Department; with research interests, covering a broad spectrum of topics encompasses ecology, genomic, cancer biology, organismal biology among other specialties. Much of the research carried out in the Department of Biology is aimed to address challenges such as health, environment and energy.

The College of Science is one of the oldest Colleges in the University and remains a cornerstone of scientific education and research supporting the economic and technological development of the country. In addition to modern technology supporting teaching and learning and excellent departmental laboratories, the College boasts special purpose facilities such as the Nano-Physics Research Laboratory, Genomic Analysis and Microbial Studies Laboratory, Central Analytical Laboratory, Inorganic Geochemistry Laboratory, Geophysics and Seismic Laboratory, and the Museum of Living Resources and Geological Museum.

Education & qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD in Molecular Biochemistry or other relevant disciplines and additional qualifications in teaching and learning or other professional skills relevant to a faculty role. Other evidence of working in teaching or research discipline/s as well as the ability to engage in international-quality research.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed remotely.

Final round interviews may be held on campus and candidates may be asked to submit a more detailed research proposal and/or give a short presentation as part of the interview process.
