THE COLLEGE: CSUEB’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) offers 6 degree programs (BS in Business Administration, MBA, BA and MA in Economics, MS in Accountancy, and MS in Business Analytics) spanning four departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management, and Marketing. The CBE’s distinguished faculty represents a multinational, multicultural diverse group providing a wealth of wide-range of global experiences and expertise in various fields. The College is AACSB accredited since 1973. CBE has been also nationally ranked by the Princeton Review (2014).

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Economics is housed in the College of Business and Economics at California State University, East Bay. It has eight full-time faculty, about 80 undergraduate majors, and 25 Master’s students. The program offers the opportunity to teach and conduct research with a diverse student body. The Department serves teaching needs in the Economics degree programs (BS, MS), and in the business administration programs (BSBA, MBA). The BSE provides students training in a broad variety of fields in economics reflecting the diverse research interests of the faculty. Many lower division courses in the BSE also satisfy students GE requirements. The MSE is undergoing a transition to a more quantitative MS in Quantitative Economics and applying for STEM designation.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: This is a department chair position. It requires leadership and management across all aspects of department functions:

  • Provide innovative and progressive leadership to the department
  • Work collaboratively with the tenure track faculty, part-time faculty, staff members, and undergraduate and graduate majors to achieve departmental goals
  • Assume administrative and budgetary responsibility for all department programs
  • Encourage and participate in scholarship activities
  • Promote continual quality assurance and development of undergraduate, graduate, and scholarly programs
  • Articulate the role of economics at the college, university, and community level
  • Teach selected graduate and undergraduate classes
  • Participate as a member of the college council of chairs leadership team


Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses.

RANK AND SALARY: Associate or Full Professor. Tenure will be determined by scholarly and teaching achievements. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester, 2021

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates are required to have a PhD in Economics or a closely related field. Additionally, applicants should have a well-established record of scholarly productivity. Candidates for this chair position will be expected to provide clear and compelling evidence of collaborative leadership, faculty support, and the promotion of academic programs within a university structure. Experience in fundraising and development of external support is desirable. Candidates must be committed to the stated mission and student learning outcomes of the department and CSU East Bay.
