Job no: 233117-AS
Work type: Staff-Full Time
Department: L&S/COMPUTER SCI/COMP SCI
Location: Madison
Categories: Information Systems/Technology, Research, Scientific, Computer Science

Position Summary:

The Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC) is looking for a systems administrator to further our mission of supporting large-scale computing for science. The computing infrastructure team helps operate, configure, monitor, and debug the operating systems, batch configurations, networking, filesystems, and hardware within CHTC. This position is a great opportunity for someone who is self-motivated, enjoys working in a dynamic and flexible team environment, can multi-task, and thrives on variety and a fast-paced, challenging work environment. Join CHTC and develop new skills and gain exposure to a broad set of state-of-the-art technologies!

This is an excellent entry-level position for systems administrators with an interest in research computing; the position's duties and responsibilities are designed for candidates with 1-3 years of experience and who are self-motivated and can work with minimal supervision. Junior professionals who have supported Linux systems for scientific or engineering users are especially encouraged to apply. Work is normally performed during typical office hours and in an office environment. There is no after-hours pager duty but after-hours work may be necessary in exceptional circumstances.

The CHTC at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a world leader in developing and supporting tools for scientific distributed computing on a campus, national, and international scale. The Center is part of the internationally recognized Computer Sciences department; the team produces the HTCondor software suite, operates a computing facility with hundreds of Linux-based computer servers, collaborates with scientists from a wide spectrum of disciplines, promotes and supports campus use of high throughput computing technologies, and leads a national-scale distributed high throughput computing effort, the Open Science Grid, that transforms the use of computing for scientific discovery.
