They will lead efforts for hiring faculty and trainees who are interested in pursuing research that contributes to our strategic plan. They will ensure that financial support, space, and other resources are available to our current research groups, as well as our future new hires, by coordinating assistance from our department, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and the Graduate School. They will serve as chair of the departmental Research & Development (R&D) committee. They will provide oversight for departmental research managers and administrators, and for pre- and post-award processing of external grant funding; manage our internal R&D funds and assure satisfactory progress of funded research projects; and help advance nominations of department members for internal and external research awards.

- Teaching and Mentoring. The VCR will provide instruction, mentoring, and support for faculty, fellows, residents, and students who are interested and/or involved in research. Educational opportunities may include didactic teaching in the department, the medical school, and the graduate school.

- Research. The VCR will be provided time and resources to pursue their own research interests. The successful candidate will be awarded the Bamforth Research Distinguished Chair in Anesthesiology.

- Clinical Service. Applicants will be given the opportunity, and in many cases expected to provide clinical service in their area of specialization. The department staffs several UW Health locations that care for patients undergoing inpatient and outpatient surgeries of all types, in both adult and pediatric populations, as well as critical care and chronic pain.
