Job Summary

The College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Associate Director of Development! The Associate Director of Development coordinates, directs, and implements development activities within the College of Engineering and Applied Science. This position manages a portfolio of prospects and carries out the institution’s program of soliciting major gifts. This individual will be responsible for a geographic region including the Denver Metro area as well as an out of state territory including the South mid-west to the Southeast. They will work directly with faculty and staff of the college including the dean, and greater Advancement unit, and will be responsible for managing a designated travel budget.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Works with alumni and friends of the college to cultivate existing and new donor relationships.
  • Portfolio Management: Manages portfolio consisting of 100-120 prospects. Develops and maintains relationship with portfolio, comprised of individuals capable of making major gifts ($100k+).
  • 5 main metrics: Total dollars raised, Visits (face-to-face, virtual and phone calls), Number of $100K+ solicitations, Number of $5K+ solicitations, and Assists. This position can expect higher volumes of visits and lower level solicitations due to tenure and territory, though goals would be established for each.
  • Works closely with University of Colorado (CU) faculty (may work directly with dean of college) and occasional volunteers to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives. Facilitates productive relationships daily between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
  • Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements. Documents prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Represents the college at University events in order to support the University and cultivate donors.


What You Should Know

This position requires extensive travel within the state of Colorado as well as to areas including but not limited to: Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Iowa.
  • Approximately 75% travel expected.


What We Can Offer

The salary range is $71,000 - $77,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, communications or other relationship-building roles.


What You Will Need

  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adept at building rapport in a variety of circumstances.
  • Customer service mentality.
  • Expert ability to analyze information/situations and solve problems.
  • Expert ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality.
  • Solid ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities, and interests of assigned school, students, faculty, and alumni.
  • Solid ability to recruit and manage activities of volunteer staff.
  • Solid ability to cultivate and solicit donations from individuals at leadership gift level.
  • Personal computer proficiency required, especially with Microsoft Office Products, Advance.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Knowledge of major gift fundraising techniques and a demonstrated track record in a university or similar environment.
  • Graduate work in related field.
