Job Summary
The Assistant Professor, Healthcare Simulation Center will design, develop, implement, and evaluate new scenarios, simulation tools, research studies and other educational initiatives to measure learning outcomes; compile educational material and supportive documents and props to enhance teaching sessions; keep up with current literature and news in the simulation community; set up and clean up rooms for simulation scenarios and laboratory days; maintain the Healthcare Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment; maintain appropriate levels of supplies and other disposable and non-disposable items including the gases necessary for the operation of the center; assist students in utilization of simulation equipment, providing an appropriate orientation to simulator features and the simulated learning environment; operate and program simulator equipment for simulation sessions; role-play as needed for simulated cases; assure that simulator is in good working condition prior to the start of all simulations; knowledge of the audiovisual recording system software; identify key elements of a simulation experience by tagging the video and utilizing during debriefing session; facilitate student driven discussion during debriefing session; monitor simulated exercises and provide evaluation forms for users to complete; solicit instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process; lead tours of the Simulation Center and demonstrate equipment to new users and visitors; contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices for the Healthcare Simulation Center; maintain data confidentiality and security; maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise; communicate in a positive, professional manner; promote excellence in teaching through respectful behavior and role modeling.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university (or working toward completion of a master's degree in nursing)
Licensed as an RN in Kansas or Nurse Licensure Compact (other sole state is acceptable as long as it is understood that Kansas licensure will be required)
Knowledge of patient simulation services and instructional technologies
Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and clinical applications
Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education
Computer proficiency preferred in PC and Mac-based software applications: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and web design
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills
Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines
Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision
Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely and meticulous manner demonstrating initiative and creativity
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with healthcare professionals
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues
Ability to assess situations and adapt to highly dynamic environment
Ability to work evening/weekends
Ability to handle occasional heavy lifting and use of specialized medical equipment as work requires
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in clinical care and education
Experience in BLS, ACLS or ATLS
