Job Summary

The Housing Specialist I maintains the day-to-day front desk operations of the assigned Residence Hall(s) within the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

Maintains day-to-day front desk operations of the assigned residence hall(s).

Assists with the recruitment and selection of student workers.

Supervises front desk student assistants, creates schedules to ensure coverage. Originates the hiring, approving time and training of students in Workday.

Monitors the distribution, collection and inventory of residential room and mailbox keys, building master keys, storage keys, common area keys, vendor keys and electronic swipe keys for assigned residence hall(s).

Oversees the incoming/outgoing mail, packages and deliveries for residential students in assigned residence hall(s).

Monitors room reservations and equipment rental for respective building for students, faculty and staff.

Reports and tracks facilities issues according to department procedures.

Orders office supplies and monitors office supplies budget for assigned residence hall(s).

Coordinates the maintenance and upkeep of copier equipment.

Reviews camera footage and supplies documentation of residence hall incidents.

Other Duties:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Four years of relevant, full-time general office experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Work experience in residence halls within a higher education setting.

Experience with Ellucian Banner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of general office procedures.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Ability to operate office equipment including personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, and calculator.

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.

Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files and reports.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.

Ability to analyze and solve problems, draw valid conclusions, and/or develop appropriate alternatives where applicable.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.
