RISD’s Admissions Department seeks an Assistant Director of Admissions Communication and Outreach to join their dynamic and close-knit team. The incoming candidate will play a critical role in conceptualizing, developing, building, implementing, and managing strategic marketing and communication plans to achieve the College’s undergraduate, graduate, and visiting student enrollment goals. They will liaise between the Admissions and Media Group (Media) departments to ensure a collaborative approach to communicating and deliver a cohesive RISD message and brand in all public-facing modes of communication including digital, print, web, email, video, and social media platforms.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, build, and execute all Admissions and enrollment email communication and campaigns using the Admissions CRM (Slate). Work with director to strategize, write, and edit appropriate text to engage prospective students, applicants, admitted students and their families. Successfully query in Slate to ensure messages are appropriately targeting the correct intended audience. Anticipate needs of prospective students and their families and build campaigns to address their concerns. Target and engage new prospective students with emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Develop and implement new communication streams for all relevant populations, including influencers and RISD community when appropriate.

  • Coordinate and manage the yearly Student Search campaign (campaign of 19+ emails targeting sophomores, juniors, and parents) – whether this is with a third-party partner (currently Whiteboard) or in-house. Explore new ways of making content dynamic and engaging.

  • Act as the liaison between the Admissions Office and Media. Serve as member of the Admissions + Media strategy team which meets weekly and as needed. Maintain constant communication between the two offices to promote maximum exposure across media platforms and collaboration of efforts. Serve as the Admissions Office RISD “brand expert” – staying on top of evolving brand initiatives and messaging goals for the office and for the College as a whole.

  • Strategize, write, design, and format marketing assets for applicant portals, social media platforms, and email communication. Review all Admissions’ websites and pages to ensure accurate, timely content and liaise with Media to make edits while adhering to institutional branding guidelines.

  • Create, coordinate, strategize, and execute the Office’s social media communication plans. Work with third-party agencies to implement social media advertising, track success, and maintain engagement with students throughout the application process.

  • Coordinate and guide photographers, videographers, graphic designers and writers, under the direction of the Director of Admissions. Collaborate with the Media group to conceptualize, develop and pitch content for admissions marketing materials, such as information program presentations, social media posts and stories, and other materials.

  • Analyze the success of all communication, marketing, and advertising campaign to determine effectiveness, identify weaknesses/areas where improvement is needed, and potential opportunity for future efforts. Make recommendations for future improvements, partnerships, campaigns, based on analysis and research of newly emerging technologies. Explore new ways to develop and deliver content and attend conferences and webinars to stay informed of new trends and opportunities.

  • Serve as a backup for CRM user support and application processors during extremely busy times such as application deadlines.



Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

Bachelor’s degree required. Three years of experience working in marketing, communication, social media, and/or writing, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Strong digital/graphic design, HTML, and CSS skills required. Competent in Adobe Suite and graphic design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma. Strong computing, data management, and data mining skills, preferably using Slate; ability to learn new systems quickly and troubleshoot complex problems and processes. Excellent written and verbal communication are essential. Ability to organize, plan, and implement large complex communication plans. Demonstrated experience working and communicating inclusively and effectively within a broadly diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.
