Department Summary
The Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) is a center within the Department of Psychology whose mission is to translate knowledge from basic neuroscience and apply it to improve well-being, promote resilience, and mitigate the effects of early adverse experiences. The CTN employs successive iterations of neuroscience research, theory building, and practice to drive the scientific knowledge base forward and promote evidence-based policy.

The Psychology department, located within the College of Arts and Sciences, is one of the largest departments supporting significant instructional and research activities in a wide range of fields within the discipline. The Department enrolls about 1,900 students per term, with approximately 300 undergraduate Psychology majors and 80 doctoral students, and includes approximately 35 teaching faculty, emeriti faculty, research staff, graduate students, and professional/administrative staff. Position Summary
Seeking a full-time Data Analyst to work with Dr. Philip Fisher and his team on the Rapid Assessment of Pandemic Impact on Development - Early Childhood (RAPID-EC) project, a twice-monthly survey of households with children ages 0-5 to assess the needs, health promoting behaviors, and well-being of children and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project consists of survey administration and data collection, data analysis, and publishing on a fast-paced schedule. This position may be either Research Associate or Research Assistant rank, depending on whether or not the successful applicant has a terminal degree.

This position will support the research agenda that investigates the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the emotional and economic well-being of parents/caregivers and on the health and development of children ages 0-5. This individual will work closely with the project director, Dr. Fisher, to review relevant literature, assemble data, conduct primarily data analysis, and contribute to original research publications, as well as to articles, briefs and presentations for the general public and policy audiences.

This individual will work collaboratively with the project director, project manager and research team. This individual will maintain standardized documentation and other processes as outlined in the team's Manual of Procedures.

The project is based at the University of Oregon; candidates who are not local are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements
Research Assistant:
  • Masters in Psychology, Data Science, or related field
  • Experience conducting survey data analysis
  • Experience conducting advanced multivariate statistical modeling using a variety of software packages including SPSS and/or R

    Research Associate:
  • Doctorate in Psychology, Data Science, or related field
  • Experience conducting survey data analysis
  • Experience conducting advanced multivariate statistical modeling using a variety of software packages including SPSS and/or R

    Professional Competencies
  • Excellent analytic and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present research findings to small and large groups
  • Ability to adapt flexibly to changes in responsibilities and assignments
  • Demonstrated professionalism and previous quality interactions with colleagues

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, with a particular emphasis on birth to age 5
  • Experience conducting research related to family and child well-being or early childhood development
  • Interest in applied developmental neuroscience and prevention science
