Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Lecturer I - 3 year non tenure track position. This position is a continuing appointment position renewable upon successful periodic performance evaluations. Renewal is subject to budget availability in the Dance Department for the Edinburg/Brownsville campus beginning in the Fall 2021-2022 academic year.

Job description:
The Department of Dance at UTRGV is searching for a full-time faculty member to join the program. The primary responsibilities for the position include teaching all levels modern/contemporary technique and courses in somatic practices, as well as dance appreciation; the ability to teach music for dancers and/or dance production is desirable. Additional responsibilities include regularly creating new choreography for students and advising students. An MFA or PhD in Dance and strong record of professional experience are expected.

Department/College Background
The UTRGV Dance Program is situated on the Edinburg campus, and offers both a BFA in Dance, a BA in Dance, and a BA with Teacher Certification. It provides a broad coverage of dance training, including dance technique, improvisational and choreographic skills, music for dancers, historical and cultural dimensions of dance, dance production, dance science, and theories of dance. The multi-cultural emphasis of the program makes it unique among most dance programs offering a curriculum of technique classes in Ballet, Modern, Mexican Folklorico, and Flamenco. The Dance Program has approximately 70 declared majors and numerous dance minors. Highly visible aspects of dance at UTRGV are the dance performance companies. The nationally and internationally recognized Ballet Folklorico is one of the most active and distinguished organizations on the UTRGV campus. Along with the Ballet Folklorico; the Dance Ensemble, the Ballet Company, and the Cuadro Flamenco, provide live dance concerts, performances, lecture demonstrations, workshops, and expertise to the community-at-large, the state, and the nation.


Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold an MFA in Dance from an accredited institution of higher learning.


Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Experience in two or more of the following areas: Yoga/Pilates, Modern Dance, and Ballet Folklórico; Dance Production and Music for Dancers.”


Preferred Qualification:
• Ability to teach additional courses such as dance production, music for dancers, dance technique in one or more of the following forms, ballet, jazz, Mexican folklorico, and dance performance.
• Demonstrated university teaching experience.
• Demonstrated strong choreography experience.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
