During the summer months (June through August), the successful candidate will coordinate and deliver an intensive Summer Institute for the KC PLUS program, as well as other duties associated with the program. This position requires a commitment to building positive working relationships with PK-12 schools and The New Teacher Project (TNTP), including extensive experience as a school principal.
Now is an exciting time to join the School of Education as we engage in strategic planning and strengthen key entities designed to serve the community, including the Urban Education Research Center, Regional Professional Development Center, and the Institute for Urban Education. The School is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) at the initial licensure level. It serves as a major institutional partner to school districts and community agencies across Kansas City. As a public urban-serving research institution, UMKC is located in the heart of Kansas City. The greater metropolitan area has a population of over 2.3 million people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. Kansas City is home to a vibrant culture and arts scene, with world famous barbecue, jazz music, and an abundance of sports, recreational, and entertainment activities. As the Paris of the Plains, UMKC resides in the center of the “New Midwest.” Major Responsibilities included but are not limited to:-
Facilitate weekly
goals-based coaching aligned to program priorities and
differentiated for individual leader needs and context
Teach graduate-level courses in PK-12
Educational Administration
Advise and mentor graduate students
in the KC PLUS program
Coordinate and deliver the intensive Summer Institute for the KC
PLUS program
Contribute to the
design of a professional development scope and sequence for new
school leaders
Design and facilitate
professional development for new school leaders.
Collaborate with network and district leadership to observe and
deliver concrete, actionable feedback to new school leaders
Collaborate with
Educational Administration faculty on programmatic issues
Provide service to the
division, school, and university

Doctorate in
Educational Administration or closely related field, or an
Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration and
tested experience in educational administration, or a closely
related field
Certified as a school
administrator
Previous experience as a building
principal
Previous experience teaching at the
college/university level
Demonstrated
understanding of effective teaching and a deep commitment to
effective and rigorous instruction
Demonstrated
understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and/or Common Core
State Standards
Demonstrated
understanding of and commitment to social justice and urban
issues
Demonstrated ability to
work effectively with students from culturally diverse
backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to
collaborate effectively with others
Excellent oral and
written communication skills

Experience teaching in
both face-to-face and online formats
Proven track record of raising student achievement in a high-need
school or with high-need populations
