Dean, Pardee RAND Graduate School and Vice President, Innovation

The Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School (Pardee RAND) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean and Vice President, Innovation.

 

The Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School, part of the RAND Corporation, is the largest and oldest public policy Ph.D. program. It was established in 1970 to educate and train successive generations of analysts to perform rigorous, interdisciplinary, objective policy research. Co-located with the RAND Corporation at its headquarters in Santa Monica, California, Pardee RAND currently enrolls 110 Ph.D. students, with about of third of the student body from 23 countries outside the United States. There are currently more than 200 faculty members at Pardee RAND, drawn from among leading specialists within RAND and distinguished visiting scholars.

 

The RAND Corporation is a nonpartisan nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decision-making through research and analysis. For seven decades, RAND has used rigorous, fact-based research and analysis to help individuals, families, and communities throughout the world be safer and more secure, healthier and more prosperous. Its research spans the issues that matter most, such as energy, education, health care, justice, the environment, international affairs, and national security.

 

The Dean of Pardee RAND is an officer of the RAND Corporation, reporting to the President and CEO of RAND, and a key member of the RAND Corporation's senior management. The Dean must combine knowledge of the changing nature of public policy at all levels, strong intellectual skills, a recognition of the need for innovation in graduate education, a dedication to high-quality and objective research and analysis, a passion for graduate students, and a commitment to continue to strengthen the financial standing of the school through sound financial management, building on the school’s fundraising base, and developing new revenue sources that are consistent with the school’s mission.

 

The Vice President, Innovation for the RAND Corporation plays a key role in strengthening the environment for innovation across RAND and in managing an important portion of the institution’s internal research, development, and investment program across national security and social and economic policy areas. Through this program and RAND’s analytic Methods Centers, the Vice President, Innovation leads the strategic initiatives to build RAND’s future capabilities in new methods and tools, “scalable analytic methods,” and emerging policy areas.

 

Pardee RAND seeks a seasoned leader with proven senior level management experience in organizations of scope and complexity, and with expertise that is demonstrably relevant to RAND’s programmatic areas. An aptitude for stakeholder engagement and a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and diversity & inclusion will be critical.
