Job Title: Director of Relationship Management & Prospect Analytics

Johns Hopkins University is seeking an experienced energetic individual to provide strategic vision and planning for the University’s Relationship Management and Development Analytics team in support of the institution’s fundraising initiatives.

The Director of Relationship Management & Prospect Analytics analyzes trends internal and external to Johns Hopkins to provide insight for fundraising initiatives and prospect portfolio management. They lay the groundwork for the fundraising process through comprehensive strategic analysis of donor pools, philanthropic giving trends and the exploration of key relationship networks. They are responsible for presenting meaningful and actionable data as it relates to ongoing fundraising activities and new campaign initiatives. Finally, working closely with the Director of Development Research they ensure that the priorities of the Development Research, Relationship Management and Development Analytics teams are fully integrated and aligned with prospect development strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Introduce, implement and maximize tools and methods to ensure effective prospect management, including data mining and predictive modeling.
  • Manage the Relationship Management and Development Analytics team and ensure that activities between the teams are coordinated and aligned.
  • Maintain an overall knowledge of the University’s top prospects to assist fundraisers in developing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; referencing and representing that information at meetings and in discussions as needed.
  • Work with the other Directors in Advancement Services to create an implementation plan for prescriptive analytics.
  • Provide meaningful metrics for fundraising activities.
  • Strategize and partner with gift officers to support the development of high-capacity portfolios. Recalibrate portfolios as needed to maximize performance and elevate the highest priority prospects for management.
  • Work with leadership, gift officers and Development Research to ensure that fundraising initiatives have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals.
  • Create and maintain a suite of tools for descriptive and predictive analytics.
  • Implement prospect management guidelines and procedures and serve as a content expert for these guidelines.
  • Ensure that the data in the prospect management modules of the CRM are accurate and relevant.
  • Supervise the Relationship Management and Development Analytics staff. Set departmental and individual employee goals and provide routine evaluations of progress toward these goals. Identify and promote professional growth opportunities for staff. Ensure adherence to professional standards and ethics of prospect research.
  • Maintain an awareness of the goals and accomplishments of the University and of issues within the development profession.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible positions in higher education prospect development or related field is required, seven years is preferred.
  • Three years of related management experience is required.
  • Proficiency in conceptualizing and developing proactive prospecting methodologies using such tools as constituent list segmentation, data mining, and electronic and peer screenings.
  • Understanding of wealth indicators and ability to translate such information into prospect ratings and gift estimates.
  • Experience in data analytics, comprehensive biographical or genealogical research, and/or financial analysis. Experience leveraging predictive modeling.
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and synthesize data using data warehousing and mining tools.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, customer-oriented working environment.
  • Experience in Development Research is preferred.
  • Experience implementing Advancement CRMs is preferred.
  • Skill in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to implement short and long term goals while managing multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by; concise and persuasive writing, public speaking, and private discourse.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated experience successfully working with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, highly driven and results oriented.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
