Pre- and Post- Doctoral Teaching Fellowships

Pre- and Post- doctoral teaching fellowships are available for scholars who are ABD or who have completed a Ph.D. or other terminal degree within the past three years. These are one-year fellowships with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Applicants should be committed to innovative, student-centered teaching that promotes a culturally diverse educational environment. Women and scholars of color are especially encouraged to apply. If applicants will not have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. or other terminal degree by August of their application year, they should provide a timeline for completion by the end of the fellowship period.

• Fellows teach two courses per semester, with a maximum of two course preparations per year
• Online teaching certificate course provided
• Opportunity for teaching additional winter and summer courses online if desired
• On-campus housing provided
• Health insurance provided
• Office space provided
• Annual stipend of $15,000-$20,000 depending on credentials and experience
• Library privileges
• $400 reimbursement for travel related to scholarly activity
• Ability to apply for faculty research funding during the second semester of appointment
• Faculty mentorship

Target academic areas include, but are not limited to:

• Accounting
• Agricultural/Environmental Sciences
• Biology (especially animal science, cell biology, and human biology)
• Business
• Chemistry (especially analytical and physical chemistry)
• Humanities
• Social Sciences

• Undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts
• A sample syllabus for a 100- or 200-level course in the academic discipline
• A 1-2 page statement describing the ways in which the applicant will contribute to encouraging the expansion of the culturally diverse learning environment at Ferrum College

  • List of Ferrum College courses prepared to teach if needed
