The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor in the School Psychology (SP) Program within the Department of Teaching and Learning Sciences. This nine-month position begins September 1, 2021.

Position Summary

We are seeking a colleague who is passionate about developing bold leaders and strong practitioners. Our program is dedicated to preparing professionals who are capable of promoting equitable access for children and their families in the areas of learning, behavior, and mental health. Our students learn to provide supports in schools, homes, and communities for individuals aged birth-21. A strong candidate will model educational and social equity through meaningful teaching, service, and scholarship activities. Our Department emphasizes the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, multicultural sensitivity, social justice, and competence. It is expected that the individual who fills this position will promote the University's vision to be a great private university dedicated to the public good and the Colleges mission to be a force for positive change.

Essential Functions

  • The University, through its faculty, shall engage in a variety of professional functions, such as teaching, scholarly research and/or creative activity, shared governance, and professional/public service.
  • Roles and responsibilities include:
    • Teach graduate level courses.
    • Advise and mentor graduate students, including theses and dissertations.
    • Collaborate with program, department, and college partners.
    • Perform Research and Service activities in accordance with the Tenure-Track Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Model educational and social equity through contributions to scholarly research, interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching in the MA, EdS, and PhD programs, and involvement in community engaged service.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing, pervasive commitment to advocacy, social justice, and inclusive excellence in their research, teaching orientation, and service.
  • We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of statistical and research methods, developmental, psychological, and learning theories, general and special education, and legal, ethical, and professional standards of practice.
  • Professional competency in program evaluation, assessment, prevention, intervention, and consultation with family, school and community professionals is also anticipated. The EdS and the PhD Program are accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The PhD program recently received accreditation on contingency by the American Psychological Association (APA).

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate by September 1, 2021 in school psychology or a closely related field.
  • Experience working in clinical settings or with P-12 schools (e.g., practica, internship, employment).
  • Demonstrated research record of promise to achieve excellence on the tenure-track.
  • Demonstrated record of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and school psychology.
  • Licensed or license-eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional School Psychologist licensure at the start of the appointment.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level that includes knowledge of a variety of teaching methods, approaches, and/or curricular perspectives that effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.
  • Quantitative methodology expertise.
  • Demonstration or promise of grant acquisition and funding.
  • Expertise in social-emotional learning, crisis, trauma, and/or mental health.
  • Knowledge of and experience with a variety of cognitive, academic, social-emotional, executive functioning, and early childhood assessments.
  • Knowledge of general and special education.
  • Knowledge of development of population ages birth through 21.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $75,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
