Position Title Director of the Center at Moore Hall Overview

Provide vision, planning, and implementation of the office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( IDEI ) arts, cultural, intellectual and community engagement events, programs and initiatives through the management of daily operations, and supervision, of the Center at Moore Hall and the PC Smith Hill Annex. In keeping with the College’s Catholic and Dominican Mission, cultivate a supportive community environment that promotes, equity, inclusion, and sense of belonging responsive to the diverse backgrounds from which our students, faculty, and staff. Create a climate that values the identities of historically marginalized people, and that celebrates and honors the collective identities and perspectives of people within the community. As a multi-purpose, multi-cultural, student-centered space focused on the arts, culture, and social justice, the Director will facilitate connections between faculty, students, staff, student organizations, members of the local Smith Hill, Elmhurst neighborhoods, and the Providence Community. Ensure a vibrant social, intellectual, and cultural, environment guided by the foundational themes of creativity, collaboration, and intellectual engagement. Provide leadership on the PC Community Advisory Committee, and work toward building and maintaining strong community relationships with off-campus stakeholders in order to further develop and advance the College’s presence in the community and civic spaces.

Essential Duties:

1. The Director, working with graduate and undergraduate students, will monitor and manage the use of the space within the Center at Moore Hall for the academic, arts/culture, social, intellectual and community activities consistent with the vision to ensure quality and relevance of programs/activities, and equity in access to a broad range of campus stakeholders.

2. Drawing on the College’s Strategic Plan, PC200,Goal 2, “A Model of Love, Inclusivity, and Equity in a Diverse Community” and in collaboration with Mission and Ministry, Student Affairs, student organizations, academic departments, and other divisions of the College, the Director will develop a range of academic, educational, cultural, and social experiences for the campus community that will further the College’s progress toward greater equity, inclusion, and excellence. These include working with the Faculty in Residence at the Center more to develop, the “Intellectual Engagement Clusters Project”, and establishing exciting educational initiatives around a range of common priorities, through partnerships that include, but, not limited to, arts and humanities programs, the departments of Asian Studies, Black Studies, Global Studies, Sociology, Theater, Women and Gender Studies, the Feinstein Institute, STEM, business programs, and PC Galleries.

3. Actively participate in institution-wide strategic priorities around diversity such as cultural intelligence education and DEI certificate programs developed in conjunction with the IDEI Director of Education, Training, and Assessment, employee-wide DEI professional development programs, Difficult Dialogues initiatives, etc.

4. Develop a variety of effective quantitative and qualitative assessment tools related to participation in, and quality of, programs and initiatives as well as space utilization. Convene the Center at Moore Hall Committee.

5. Oversee the PC/Smith Hill Annex located in the Providence community on Douglas Avenue. Work with the PC Annex Committee and a graduate assistant to strengthen the connection between the College and the greater external community. Provide access and opportunities for collaborative programs, events, and projects in a space that will serve community organizations, members of the neighbor communities and Providence College.

Marginal Duties:

1. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, sociology, or a related field preferred.

• Minimum of five years’ experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

• Strong background in successfully supporting the personal, cultural, and academic development of first generation college students.

• Specific knowledge and skills addressing the needs of students of color and undocumented students.

• Ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of campus stakeholders on campus and in the local Providence community (artists, educators, scholars, and community activists).

• Ability to work with artists, community based organizations, and local leaders sin advancing an organization’s mission.
