Key Responsibilities

Juniata College, a highly ranked, national liberal arts college of 1,200 students located in the scenic Allegheny Mountains of central Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Director of The Baker Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, the Elizabeth Evans Baker Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies. This position is 3-year fixed-term, with the potential of becoming a tenure-track position.

The director will be expected to teach four courses per year including Introduction to Conflict Resolution and Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies. The Director will provide the strategic vision and collaborative leadership needed to further the Institute’s role:
• as a flagship academic program that can be integrated across the curriculum;
• in establishing and maturing synergistic relationships with on-campus partners to increase the visibility of the program, increase recruitment and demonstrate its relevance to students;
• in providing dynamic and innovative leadership in the development of the field of peace studies;
• in identifying and developing internships and other student opportunities in or related to the field of peace studies;
• in developing proposals for foundation funding consistent with the mission and goals of the Institute, and in identifying and building relationships with potential donors.

Juniata has international exchange and degree students from 32 different countries and sends students abroad to 34 different exchange and program sites. International students comprise over 6% of the student body and 40% of graduates have studied abroad.

Position Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in Peace and Conflict Studies or a related field, such as critical race studies, strategic peacebuilding, environmental conflict, restorative justice, or a similar allied field.

Supervision Required/Given

This position reports directly to the Provost.
