Job Summary

The Department of Biomedical Engineering encourages applications for a Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Professor Mark Borden. This position will participate in blood-brain barrier disruption experiments using focused ultrasound and microbubbles, including in vitro and in vivo experiments. The Research Assistant will also attend weekly meetings with Prof. Borden and other lab personnel.

Who We Are

The Borden Research Lab investigates the science and engineering of microbubbles, nanodrops and other colloidal suspensions for use in biomedical imaging and therapy. Current applications include ultrasound molecular imaging, ultrasound image-guided drug delivery and oxygen delivery. We also focus on molecular-level details of interfacial transport phenomena related to our engineered colloids.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Operate the focused ultrasound (FUS) device.
  • Synthesize and characterize size-isolated microbubbles (SIMBs).
  • Handle rodent models and perform FUS procedures on them.
  • Coordinate studies with CU Anschutz for assessing treatment of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) tumors.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from an accredited university.


What You Will Need

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities to operate the focused ultrasound device, synthesize microbubbles, run preclinical animal studies, and coordinate studies with medical collaborators.
  • Basic understand of human physiology, focused ultrasound, microbubbles, blood-brain barrier disruption and cancer biology.


What We Would Like You To Have
  • Prior experience in Biomedical Engineering with interest in blood-brain barrier disruption.
