Job Summary

We are encouraging applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Smalyukh Research Group, Department of Physics, MSE and RASEI, University of Colorado Boulder. This is an opening with a research focus on self-assembly of mesostructured composite materials with emergent new properties and physical behavior.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

We are an interdisciplinary, highly productive research group in Physics, MSE and RASEI at University of Colorado Boulder. Our scientific interests encompass different branches of soft condensed matter and optical physics, including novel laser trapping and imaging techniques, molecular and colloidal self-assembly, fundamental properties of liquid crystals, polymers, nanostructured and other functional materials, as well as their photonic and electro-optic applications. The emerging scientific frontiers in these fields show an exceptional promise of significant new discovery and of new applications that become possible only now, after the recent breakthroughs in condensed matter physics, optics, nanoscience, and biology.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The planned research projects will be spanning soft condensed matter systems, including studies of aerogels, hydrogels, colloids and liquid crystals. Prior research experiences in one or more of the following research directions will be considered valuable:
  1. Liquid crystals;
  2. Aerogels;
  3. Nanoparticle synthesis and surface functionalization;
  4. Colloids;
  5. Molecular and colloidal self-assembly;
  6. Hydrogels and related materials;
  7. Mesoporous materials. Multiple collaborations with other postdocs and PhD students in the group are expected.

What You Should Know

The position is initially for one year starting from July 1, 2021 or later, but can be potentially extended for about three additional years. In addition, our Research laboratory can host Feodor Lynen Research Fellows in this research area and encourages applications by scientists interested in collaborative research while staying in our laboratory.
