Who We Are

The mission of the Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization is to explore the culture, languages and ideas of the Western tradition, ranging from antiquity to modern society. The Center is especially concerned with the values that emerge from that tradition, and their ongoing role in the institutions of the United States. Integral to this mission is the Center’s commitment to fostering research, debate and dialogue on the fundamental issues of our time – moral, political and economic. Our aim is to promote a lively and balanced conversation that respects both conservative and liberal ideals, thus fostering the full diversity of political, economic and philosophical perspectives on the CU Boulder campus.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Selections will be made on the basis of candidates’ ability to promote the larger mission of the Benson Center, as described above. The Benson Center Scholar in Residence is a one-year, non-tenure-track, Scholar-in-Residence, at-will appointment.

Scholars in Residence should expect to teach one course in the fall and one course in the spring. They will additionally engage the learning mission of the University in other ways. They will participate regularly in the extended community of the Center and the home department through attendance at lectures, engagement with students, and participation in the academic life of the University.

What You Should Know

The appointment will begin in August 2021. Scholars-In Residence will be given office space and University of Colorado privileges.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $40,000.

  • Candidates are expected to hold a terminal degree at the time of appointment.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Ph.D. in economics.
  • Priority will be given to those whose work closely aligns with the Benson Center’s mission.
