ROLE of the POSITION

The Dean’s Office of the College of Engineering at UNLV is seeking applications for non-tenure track Assistant Professor-in-Residence candidates. The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty. We welcome applications from underrepresented groups, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

 

Our College has always had a strong commitment to high quality teaching and hands-on learning experiences for students. We have witnessed rapid enrollment growth for several years. This position was created to help us maintain high quality education while also improving retention and graduation rates. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a broad range of Engineering courses focused primarily at the lower levels.

 

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or the equivalent in a relevant engineering field by the beginning of the appointment. Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate courses in engineering, calculus, and engineering physics, help with assessment of undergraduate education, and promote an active and professional student community which fosters success. Effective communication and leadership skills are vital, and previous college-level teaching experience in a mechanical and/or electrical engineering laboratory is preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university at the time of appointment. Applicants must have some prior teaching experience. This could be experience as a Teaching Assistant while in graduate school. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

 

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding. 

 

Pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 3 passed by the Nevada State Legislature during the 31st Special Legislative Session, employees are required to take furlough at a 4.6 percent monthly reduction in compensation from January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2021.
