General Purpose:

Provides non-clinical counseling and on-site wellness support to Yale College students and working closely and collaboratively with Residential College Deans.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs and Yale Mental Health and Counseling, two Student Support Counselors work with individual students referred to them by Residential College Deans. SSCs provide case management and college-wide group wellness programming. Working on a wide range of issues, SSCs also serve Yale College students in programming to develop strategies for time and stress management, resilience and coping, conflict resolution, social and cultural belonging, and wellness and self-care. The two SSC will support 7 residential colleges and provide services within those colleges. As this role is to enhance student access to services through proximity, the SSCs provide services during evening and weekend hours.

SSCs will refer students to a licensed Yale Mental Health and Counseling staff for psychotherapy and therapeutic interventions.

Yale College has more than 6,000 undergraduate students. About 22% of students are the first in their family to attend college and about 20% are Pell-grant eligible. Students are assigned to one of 14 residential colleges. Each residential college has a head of college, a member of the faculty, a residential college dean, a head of college senior administrative assistant, a college dean senior administrative assistant, a service assistant for the head and an operations manager for the college. Residential college deans are the chief academic officer of the college and provide advising and non-clinical counseling to the students in their college.
