Job Description

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), beginning Fall 2021. The CSD program was launched in the Fall of 2019 and has been growing rapidly since. The Department plans to open a new speech-language pathology graduate program in the next two years.

Essential Functions

• Teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, including (but not limited to): speech science, hearing science, phonetics, voice and fluency disorders, and anatomy and physiology.
• Assisting in the accreditation process of the new graduate program.
• Teaching graduate courses in the future. Classes are primarily face-to-face, with occasional hybrid or online as needs arise.
• Conducting scholarly research.
• Service to the department.
• Service to the campus community.

Required Qualifications

• Earned terminal degree (Ph.D. or doctorate) in Communication Sciences and Disorders
• ASHA Certification in Speech-Language Pathology OR dual certification in SLP and Audiology
• Eligibility for Texas licensure
• Evidence of either an established line of research or the potential to establish one and obtain external funding

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience on the university level
• A minimum of three (3) years of direct clinical work with various communication disorders
• Experience with AAC
• Experience securing external grants

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, working collaboratively, and working in a multicultural environment.
• Be able to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, should show evidence of scholarly activity, and should show commitment to public higher education.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
