General Summary/Purpose:

The Institutional Research Analyst supports the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences’ institutional research function of capturing, analyzing, and interpreting data on faculty, students, courses, curriculum and other critical academic information for school and university leadership. The Analyst collects, refines, and curates data from internal information systems and surveys and present results of research in a clear, concise and compelling fashion.

The Analyst will have the skill to lead research initiatives that answer important strategic questions. This will involve developing clear research objectives and questions; working with administration, faculty and staff from the School to collect and refine data; producing descriptive and inferential analyses; summarizing findings in written and graphical report; and presenting results to audiences. Works collaboratively with university and school departments, Office of Institutional Research, IT, and administrative units. The Analyst serves as the school’s data steward for information on academics and supports standard data reporting requirements.

The Institutional Research Analyst reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Strategic Initiatives in the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identifies sources for information and coordinates reporting efforts and accuracy of data.
  • Investigates known and potential data problems in information systems used at the school.
  • Provides responses to recurring ad hoc data requests from university executive, academic, and administrative offices.
  • Independently analyzes data and writes narrative reports and creates original charts, graphs, and tables using graphics, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Supports the decision making of the school’s leadership by extracting and statistically analyzing school data and presenting findings.
  • Identifies trends, opportunities, and concerns through data analysis.
  • Determines plan of action, establishes timelines, and monitors task completion of Institutional Research projects.
  • Updates appropriate staff with project information via written and oral presentations when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in computer science, business statistics, or related field.
  • One year related experience required.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
