    Suffolk University is looking for a qualified individual for a newly created position as the Senior Accountant!

    The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Controller’s Office within the Finance and Administration Division of Suffolk University. This position is responsible for key areas of the Balance Sheet and assisting with interim and yearend audit preparations, supporting internal and external financial reporting, performing account reconciliations, and other accounting duties as assigned.

    Summary of Position:

    Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

    Provide support and assistance to the Assistant Controller for the month-end and year-end close activities and processes. Prepare schedules for the interim and yearend external audits. Evaluate and document business processes and internal controls and identify areas of potential improvement . Record and review financial transactions to confirm compliance with GAAP and accounting policies.

    Responsible for the administration of investment operations. Maintain records of investment activity in the University financial system; assist in the execution of investment cash flow; and complete required investment manager documentation. Prepare the investment disclosure for the audited financial statements.

    Perform all general ledger advancement functions including but not limited to setting up new funds when contributions / pledges received, reconciling GL to sub-ledger, monitoring donation washout accounts to ensure items are clearing, m onitoring available funds and do outreach to departments to encourage spending, etc.

    Review of reconciliations and journal entries prepared by accountants

    Assist with preparing reports, data, analysis and/or meeting documents for the Board of Trustees and or Subcommittees of the Board of Trustees.

    Other special projects and tasks as assigned.





    Requirements/Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
    • Certified Public Accountant a plus
    • 3-5 years of professional experience in accounting
    • Professional experience in higher education /non-profit or public auditing preferred
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Experience using financial and reporting systems to provide thorough and accurate financial information and analysis. Workday Financials experience is a plus.
    • Strong attention to detail and deadlines
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
