Position Summary:

The Nutrition Educator is a member of the Extension Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties FoodWIse team. Nutrition Educators are peer educators who adapt teaching to honor cultures and experiences. We engage people from the diverse communities of Wisconsin to adopt healthy food and physical activity habits.

This position is a part of the Division of Extension Institute of Health and Well-Being and the FoodWIse Program. FoodWIse is a community-based nutrition program that advances healthy eating habits, active lifestyles, and healthy community environments for families with limited incomes through nutrition education at the individual, community, and systems levels. FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) grants. Learn more about FoodWIse here.

Required:
1. Ability to teach interactive lessons to children, adults and older adults in group settings
2. Work, volunteer or life experience with people or groups with limited income
3. Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology
4. Skills in teaching and communicating effectively with youth and adults by speaking, writing, and with technology
5. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments and relationships
6. Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity

Preferred:
1. Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education;
2. Understanding of the Ojibwe culture and history of the Lake Superior Chippewa, especially the Red Cliff and Bad River Bands
3. Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work
4. Ability to work cooperatively with the public, other agencies, community-based services, or organizations

Additional Information:

1. Office location will initially be assigned to either Ashland, WI or Washburn, WI. The physical location and programming coverage is contingent on continued availability of federal funds and location may be reassigned to align with funder and Extension programming priorities.
2. The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties Nutrition Program Coordinator (AREA 1) for supervision, compensation and benefits and performance reviews.
3. This positions primary programming focus is in Ashland and Bayfield Counties; however some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area.
4. Assume daily travel throughout geographies served and occasional travel within the state.
5. Expectation to make arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.
