Position Summary:

The UW Law School seeks a research coordinator for a new academic initiative studying public law, institutions, and democracy in U.S. states, beginning in summer or fall 2021 for a duration of one year. The research coordinator will be the day-to-day manager of the new initiative. This will include, primarily, conducting and supervising legal research related to state courts, other state institutions, and the law of democracy at the state level. The research coordinator's responsibilities will also include developing and managing the initiative's web content and external communications, planning and coordinating speakers and other academic events, and managing grant applications.

At present, the initiative's main project is an empirical study of state supreme court decisions across all fifty states. The research specialist will help to oversee this project. The position will also involve facilitating the launch of additional research related to public-law topics at the state level.

JD required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Applicants should have excellent legal research and writing skills and an interest or background in state governance. Applicants should also have technological proficiency, including with managing web pages and managing data in Excel, and experience with or willingness to learn how to manage data in Qualtrics. The position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to take independent initiative and to work well as part of a collaborative team.

Additional Information:

Position is initially for one year. Position may be extended for a second year dependent upon available funding, performance, and department need. Position may become renewable (permanent) after the second year, again dependent upon available funding and department need.
