The Lead Multimedia Designer will supervise the Center’s team of Multimedia and Graphic Designers; mentoring and training. The Lead Multimedia Designer will also actively collaborate and engage with instructional designers and video production team to build engaging educational course content for online courses. This position and team focus on the student’s visual experience and determines how a student interacts with interactive course content. The Lead Multimedia Designer must have a proven understanding of visual design and UI design principles for web applications and eLearning authoring tools, as well as the ability to thrive within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.


• Bachelor’s Degree required; in Interaction Design, visual design, or related field.

• Three (3) plus years of industry experience in UI design.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Proven work experience as a UI Designer or similar role.

• Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills (written / verbal), including presentation skills.

• Ability to demonstrate proven visual design / development skills and industry standard platform / OS experience.

• Demonstrate ability to create design concepts and prototypes using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Android, iOS, HTML / XHTML essential.

• Ability to create and refine prototypes, wireframes, flow diagrams, and user-requirements documents.

• Ability to prepare and present design recommendations based on program goals, user research, UX/UI principles, and an understanding of the regulatory requirements of higher education.

• Ability to participate in design and feedback sessions and generate design recommendations.

• Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining a positive outlook and a collegial, professional demeanor.

• Ability to prioritize tasks to meet department objectives and goals.

• Strong understanding of responsive UI design principles to delivery products across multiple platforms, including desktop, web and mobile.

• Strong attention to detail.

• A high degree of creativity, interaction design, and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrate leadership skills.


• Employ a learner-centered design methodology to create, prototype, develop, and validate accessible user interface designs, including page layouts and navigation for desktop, web-based, and mobile delivery of online course material.

• Collaborate with and guide team members to crystallize their UI applications needs.

• Conceptualize eLearning interface design ideas through the use of storyboards, process flows, mockups and prototypes.

• Research user needs, develop personas, perform task analysis, craft and conduct interviews to create industry-leading user experiences for online courses.

• Develop user interface design standards and best practices for online courses, which adhere to Syracuse University’s digital style guide and standard of excellence.

• Realize new learning experiences based on user insights and product goals.

• Review and reformat course content before course materials and content is added to LMS .

• Collaborate with instructional designers and production team to conceptualize, define, prioritize, and build online courses.

• Leverage your product, interaction, and visual design skills to create engaging experiences that empower learners.

• Designing products with a focus on Accessibility, and partnering with designers, developers, and testers to create accessible instructional content.

• Apply universal design principles and accessibility strategies for online learning in order to ensure ADA compliance.

• Utilize eLearning authoring tools to design interactive learning solutions.

• Manage intake and organization of digital assets throughout course development process.

• Supervise, mentor, instruct team of Multimedia Designers. Identify resource needs and concerns and reports to Video Production Manager.

• Foster environment of diversity and inclusion.
