This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that will be 30% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 70% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), available in the Food and Resource Economics Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include the development of a research and extension program focusing on U.S. agricultural policy and its implications Florida agribusinesses. Tenure will accrue in the Food and Resource Economics Department.

The faculty member will engage in Extension activities in their program area and seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program. The faculty member will participate actively in undergraduate education and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation, and undergraduate research, and publishing the results with students. Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising and may teach courses and seminars. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program. The faculty member will engage in Extension activities in their program area.

Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

Background Information:

The Food and Resource Economics Department (FRED) has approximately 30 faculty members, 10 support staff positions in Gainesville, and six faculty members spread across 5 research and education centers throughout the state. FRED faculty teach a wide variety of courses, from agribusiness marketing, to natural resource/environmental economics, to welfare economics and trade theory. FRED averages - 300 undergraduate majors/year, and 60-80 M.S., Ph.D. and Master of Agribusiness students. Research and Extension efforts reflect both the needs of the State and the mission of the Agricultural Economics profession.

Required:

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in agricultural economics or economics or a closely related discipline is required. Applicants should possess excellent leadership, communication, and quantitative skills, and experience in developing, directing, participating in for multidisciplinary research efforts.

Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
