Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Information Technology provides the technology leadership to improve the reliability and performance of core technologies optimizes the use of the administrative system and leverages modern technology solutions to improve student services and the underlying business processes of the College.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead, direct, and manage the Information Technology Division by providing leadership and direction through a clear and articulated vision of technology uses and benefits that are aligned with the College mission and goals.
  2. Plans, directs, coordinates, and implements new and existing technology, systems, and applications for continuous support of business and academic operations.
  3. Oversees and guides the information technology infrastructure to maximize efficiency, productivity, and access and ensure the delivery of quality technology and support through effective needs assessment, system design, selection and implementation processes.
  4. Oversees the development, design, implementation, and conversion to new applications, environments, and software programs.
  5. Interacts with the college community to define needs, evaluate operations, and enact improvements and enhancements.
  6. Develops, maintains, and evaluates policies, procedures, standards, capacity, and infrastructure required to provide flexible and cost-effective information technology services that support quality instruction, and efficient administrative processes.
  7. Devises staffing plans and sourcing strategies to optimize the performance and cost, risk and effectiveness of information technology operations/services.
  8. Recommends and determines a roadmap for the maturation, enhancement or replacement of the institution’s technology services, applications and infrastructure.
  9. Maintains responsibility for managing various information technology related vendor contracts.
  10. Establishes division goals, objectives, policies and procedures that are in harmony with the institutional mission and goals.
  11. Provides leadership in the development and integration of technology to assist College departments in identifying computer technology solutions for their departmental operations and reporting requirements.
  12. Develops an annual budget for the Information Technology Division, reviews, monitors, and approves expenditures.
  13. Ensures that college policies and procedures are communicated to and followed by division personnel.
  14. Ensures that division staff has opportunities for professional growth and advancement and participates in decision-making within the Information Technology Division.
  15. Develops and coordinates the implementation of processes designed to assess Laredo College's information management and decision-making processes.
  16. Ensures that the technology environment necessary to prepare mandated records and reports to external oversight agencies are prepared and/or transmitted accurately, appropriately, and on a timely basis.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • An earned Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field (computer science, management information systems, business information management, computer engineering or other closely related equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the Department of Education.
  • Ten years of full-time progressively responsible, high-level Information Technology experience, with the last five years in high level IT management.
  • Professional certification in an Information Technology related area.


Preferred:

  • An earned Master’s degree in a directly related field (computer science, management information systems, business information management, computer engineering or other related equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the Department of Education.

  • Demonstrated significant full-time high-level Information Technology management experience in a higher education setting using Banner Information System.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
