The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.

Position Summary

This position is under the general supervision of the Director of the Counseling & Testing Center ( CTC ). The counselor will function as a strong generalist conducting mental health assessments (intakes), urgent care (crisis) assessments, triage assessments and professional counseling services (including individual, couples, group). Other responsibilities include: referral, consultation, in-service training, and outreach, as well as crisis intervention services and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate. The counselor will also participate on staff, student affairs, and university committees. Similar to all staff at the CTC, the clinician will work to integrate the ideals and goals of inclusive excellence in all aforementioned activities.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in clinical psychology, clinical/community psychology, counseling psychology, social work, or related advanced degree from an accredited program; either currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT or working towards one of those licenses.
• The CTC is committed to equity and inclusion, and seeks mental health clinicians who are dedicated to ongoing learning and integrating a multicultural perspective into all aspects of their work.

Preferred Qualifications

• All post-degree supervised hours completed by start date is preferred.
• Experience conducting assessment and providing treatment for adults in one or more of the following areas: men and masculinity concerns, crisis management, academic-related concerns (performance-related anxiety, neurodiversity, motivation, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to persons identifying as: first generation, low income, person of color, LGB, transgender and gender non-conforming, veteran. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working with culturally, racially, and diagnostically diverse college students.
• Two or more years of post-graduate clinical experience, with significant experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns. Experience with solution-focused ( SFBT ) and other brief treatment models is desired.
• Experience providing treatment to underserved clients, including but not limited to: male-identified adults, students of color, athletes, veterans.
• Commitment to providing group counseling (psychoeducational/skills, support, and therapy groups).
• Experience conducting outreach programming, presentations, trainings, and/or workshops relevant to college students.
• Ability to evaluate and diagnose clients, make decisions about the urgency of clients’ problems, and design and implement appropriate therapy treatment interventions.

Physical Demands

• Limited physical demands, as this is a typical office setting.

Working conditions and environment

Typical office hours (7:45am-4:30pm). Evening hours may be required as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours/week onsite. While no after-hours crisis coverage is required, our clinical staff members occasionally provide evening outreach programming and may be called in for a campus crisis response.

Expectations are to provide in-person counseling services; however, if public health concerns persist, some remote services will be required.

• Provide initial brief assessment (triage) and urgent care coverage.
• Select, administer, and interpret various psychological, educational, and/or vocational assessments and tests.
• Provide appropriate referral resources to students, faculty, and staff.
• Engage in timely collaboration and consultation with various university departments and offices, as appropriate, to support and advocate for students.
• Participate in the training and supervision of practicum students and interns.
