Imperial College London, one of the world’s leading universities, is seeking its next President to succeed Professor Alice Gast who retires at the end of August 2022.

A community of problem-solvers dedicated to finding innovative solutions to the world's biggest challenges, Imperial College London has an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. With a mission to benefit society through all of its endeavours, Imperial is committed to developing the next generation of researchers, scientists and academics through collaboration across disciplines.

Located in the heart of London, Imperial is an outward-looking multidisciplinary space for education, research, translation and commercialisation, harnessing science and innovation to tackle global challenges. The College brings together intersecting disciplines, industries and sectors across four major areas to further our understanding of the natural world, solve major engineering problems, lead the data science revolution and improve health and well-being. With a turnover in excess of £1 billion and over 8,500 staff, Imperial educates more than 19,000 students, over half of whom come from overseas, reflecting its status as a highly international UK university. Over the past decade, Imperial has been developing, at White City, one of the most significant new campuses of any leading university in Europe. The College has innovated in its education and platform for student engagement, and established major international partnerships with overseas institutions and deepened existing collaborations yet further. Imperial has also substantially developed its fundraising platform to support the College, its students, and its wider activities.

The leadership of Imperial is an important role within the STEMMB community as a whole, and at a time when their collective endeavour is tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges. The President will be an ambassador for the College and an international advocate for scientific research and innovation, and as such will bring the conviction to promote its ideals and impact with energy and enthusiasm. They will be an exceptional leader with an empowering style, able to engender respect and engage across the breadth of the Imperial community, from staff and students to alumni, partners, and collaborators. They will have an outstanding international reputation in science, medicine, engineering, or business; and bring an energetic and collaborative approach with a high level of personal integrity. Candidates will have a deep commitment to the mission and values of the College and will actively pursue strategies that deliver exceptional outcomes with respect to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

As a leading institution in the heart of London, Imperial College proudly upholds a longstanding commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Valuing the diversity of the Imperial community is one of the four cornerstones of the recent strategy and Imperial College London strongly encourages applications from those with a diverse range of backgrounds.
