HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST - SUBSTITUTE
GROSSMONT-CUYAMACA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
DISTRICT SERVICES

Assignment: May 2021 – June 2022

BENEFITS: The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District provides an excellent comprehensive benefits program including medical, vision, dental, life, income protection insurance, and membership in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

SALARY CL-38: $4,588 Step A

The compensation shall be paid at the step of the higher classification which is at least five (5) percent greater than the bargaining unit member's monthly salary, including any longevity increment.

START DATE: May, 2021
STATUS/ASSIGNMENT: Temporary/Approximately 13 months
SCHEDULE/HOURS: Monday – Friday / 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SUMMARY
Under the direction of an assigned Supervisor, perform a variety of specialized duties; such as, assisting in activities to comply with CAL/OSHA and other federal, state, county regulations. Assist with the coordination and tracking of all certification and training requirement. Conduct district wide training, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as the liaison for the district with insurance programs providing student insurance, public liability, property damage, and other insurance related matters as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with legal mandates, statutes, and District rules, policies, procedures and practices of health and safety.
- Assist with the coordination and tracking of all required certifications, and mandated trainings such as sexual harassment and first aid and CPR.
- Arrange for the production and procurement of safety and informational signs for public and employees according to federal, state, county and city ordinances.
- Complete or arrange for the ergonomics evaluations and assistance with procurement of ADA accommodations equipment according to federal, state, county and city ordinances.
- Oversight of District DMV records retrieval and notifications. Assist with ensuring compliance of Driver Data policies and regulations. Attend training sessions; assist in the production of instructional materials and other presentations pertaining insurance programs, Driver Data, and Health and safety procedures.
- Attend meetings as directed by the assigned supervisor within Human Resources.
- Work cooperatively with each campus and local agencies to establish and maintain emergency and disaster response procedures.
- Conduct accident investigations including those from workers compensation; take statements, prepare reports and recommend corrective action as appropriate.
- Conduct meetings and maintain files for all liability claims and investigations.
- Work Cooperatively with each campus in the design and implementation of the District emergency preparedness program.
- Under direction, prepares studies and analyses of health and safety related matters.
- Train and provide direction and guidance to personnel as assigned; assign and review work; participate in selection and hiring processes as requested.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate Ridesharing Program and carpooling.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Modern techniques and procedures used in the administration of health and safety programs.
- Methods, techniques, measurements and equipment used in health and safety inspections and investigations.
- Laws, codes and regulations related to health and safety procedures.
- Modern office practices, procedures, recordkeeping techniques and equipment.
- Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.
- Basic research methods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in health and safety, Business Administration, or a related field and two years experience in a risk management or health and safety program, or working environment.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California driver's license and ability to qualify for District vehicle insurance coverage.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment with frequent trips to all sites requiring inside and outside work; subject to lifting, bending, climbing, noise and exposure to fumes, dust and mists.
