The Center for Global Education (CGE) at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru, invites applicants for the position of Full-Time Professor of English, beginning in August 2021. CGE is a small international center within a larger university, where Peruvian students earn associate degrees from Broward College (Florida) before transferring to various four-year institutions around the world. Students and professors at our center typically benefit from small class sizes and a close sense of community. Located on the Pacific Ocean, Lima boasts a temperate climate, a world-class food scene, and easy access to Peru’s incredible ocean, mountain, and jungle regions. The successful candidate will teach courses in composition, literature, and humanities to secondlanguage learners. All of the courses at CGE are taught completely in English and accredited by Broward and other partner institutions. Teaching responsibilities include a 5/5 teaching load of courses such as ESL Advanced Composition I & II, English Composition I & II, Introduction to Literature, and a variety of humanities offerings. Due to COVID-19 contingencies, the candidate should be prepared to teach in online, face-to-face, and hybrid settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruct classes in English in accordance with educational requirements and desired learning outcomes
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, papers, and examinations
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office/tutoring hours to advise and assist students
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records
  • Assist students with independent study projects in the Broward College Honors Program
  • Attend all department functions, including special events, training sessions, and meetings
  • Additional departmental and committee service as necessary
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues
  • Summer teaching as necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in English, Literature or Language Arts, OR a Master’s degree in another field with at least 18 graduate credits in any of these areas
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching non-native speakers of English
  • Spanish proficiency
  • Graduate coursework in history, philosophy, or other humanities Salary and Benefits:
