Job Description

The Associate Director for Inclusion and Diversity reports to the Director for Inclusion and Diversity for the College of Science (COS). The Associate Director for Inclusion and Diversity will provide leadership and support for initiatives to improve the campus and college climate, with particular emphasis on under-represented minority (URM) and under-served (US) undergraduate students in the COS.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the College of Science Director for Inclusion and Diversity with student initiatives college-wide, including acting as liaison to the COS departmental diversity committees to help them develop, enact, and evaluate diversity initiatives for their students
• Develop and implement co-curricular programs with an emphasis on URM/US students in the COS (e.g., mentoring program, workshops, events); this would include partnering with SOAR and the living-learning communities (e.g., Orion) to both inform and host
supports and programs that are tailored to URM/US students in the COS
• Serve as a touch point in the Dean’s Office for URM undergraduate students; this would include serving as a student facing liaison with the SOAR office – working as an informal coach to URM students in order to triage students and make referrals to SOAR as
needed
• Assist with planning and coordination of recruitment programs for URM undergraduate students, particularly those hosted by the Office of Inclusion and Diversity (e.g., Black College Institute, Hispanic College Institute)
• Be knowledgeable about and engaged with university resources/offices/support available to URM and US student populations, and work with COS advisors as an advocate for COS students that may benefit from these programs (e.g., SOAR, MAOP, Student Success Center, First-Generation Student Support, and the Cultural and Community Centers)
• Assist the COS academic advising team and First Year Experience instructors by developing materials to assist advisors and instructors with pre-orientation, orientation, career exploration, and academic advising for working with URM and US student populations
• Serve as a liaison between the COS and identity-based student organizations and community and cultural centers
• Assist in the collection of data, data analysis, and report generation to inform, evaluate, and assess COS efforts
• Participate in service, community engagement, and college outreach efforts, which may require working on some evenings and weekends, and some travel

Required Qualifications

• Master's in STEM or educational related field, with a Bachelor's in STEM
• Experience with support programs for students in STEM areas
• Knowledge of issues specific to under-represented minorities and under-served student populations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience planning and coordinating recruitment programs for students
• Experience with mentoring programs
• Experience in teaching, group facilitation, and public speaking
• Experience with use of qualitative and quantitative methods for program assessment and evaluation
